don't know about televised, but i'd quite happily sit in the pub and have this conversation with them over a gallon or two of beer.

You know, there's a part of me that revels in all those crappy Flash-only websites being un-viewable by so many hipsters, especially since so many of them were MADE by the same faithful Mac devotees. However, I think it should be pointed out that an unfortunate number of band/musician websites are Flash-only and certainly most "listen to this" parts of a website are available only if you have Flash. Those are definitely relevant to many KvRers, even if Rudess isn't.

Microsoft didn't have the web though and they didn't have your data. Google, Facebook, etc. handle data of every aspect of your life.

To be fair, google/facebook only have the information you give them, just like any other company.

Things you've entered into text fields on their own websites, where you grant them access to such information upon sign-up.

If you don't want a company to have your information, then don't give it to them?

Ignoring the question mark.. yes, indeed. But you do realise the world and his dog is using Google, don't you? And GMail for email and Facebook and Twitter for social stuff.. indeed, no one's forced to used them, but that wasn't the point when I said the following

That's why whyterabbyt has a point when he complains about Apple's handling of the iPhone. I always say people can just buy an other phone instead, but on the other hand, we have to accept that many people do not.

I personally try my best not to rely on those products completely (use different search engines, use gmail for unimportant and non-private things, limit details I share on Facebook, etc), but I know I'm still sharing a lot of my life with these companies nevertheless, as do millions of others. So their influence has the potential to go a lot further than Microsoft's does just selling Windows.
