Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

yup. with v1, my registration wouldn't "take"...i.e. i'd have to enter it every time i started aether. the hitch was that the aether folder in my vstplugins folder was set to "read-only"...
running reaper as admin or just changing the permissions on the aether folder fixed it for me.

With so many presets it would be great to have a favourites or ratings system (like Kore and Omnisphere)

greetings from costa rica! :D

Yes, we would like to add some things to the browser in the future along these things. Maybe v1.6.

If you have support questions, please send support issues to our support email so Denis can communicate directly with you.

I'm off to go find sea turtles and squirrel monkeys and am definately going to get in trouble with the GF if I hang out here on KVR while on vacation...

In all my time of computer recording, I've never found a reverb that sounds anything but a phony, echoey mess. Granted, I haven't tried everything, and I'm not a regular purchaser of high-end plugs.

Based on my message board research, the only reviews that impressed me as much as the comments on aether were those about audio damage eos. Glowing reports for a $50 plug. However, there is no demo. After trying a lousy distortion pedal (albeit free) from audio damage, I'm not going demo-less. If it's that good, even a semi-functional demo should prove it.

Redline also gets touted, but I tried the demo some time ago and was non-plussed.

Granted, I'm not good at using anything other than pre-sets. I'd rather try to sing and play in my limited time than fiddle and diddle. So maybe I just wasn't using Redline to its capacity.

Suffice it to say, after demoing Aether 1.1 and 1.5, and surveying the landscape, I don't see a real alternative. Eos might have saved me $200 bucks and been great, but I'll never know because they won't demo. I might be able to research around and find another great aether alternative for $100 bucks, but time surfing is time I could spend making money.

Thus, I took the plunge. Most money I have ever spent on a plug. I wouldn't be doing so if there seemed to be remotely credible alternative. But for me, being more serious these days -- not about fame and fortune, but simply making the best music I can -- I'm willing to to seek better options. Not in the name of succumbing to GAS, but just getting a baseline system that could be called semi-pro perhaps.

I would really welcome a thread about this plug that discusses using it, rather than just trouble shooting issues. I know that is necessary, but how about a separate thread?

Updated Kore 2 template for Aether 1.5 here:

http://www.fingermarks.co.uk/music/Kore/2cAether1.ksd

Adds the new controls and some new morphing snaps allowing you to dynamically morph between 8 different spaces (you can of course change them for your own favourites)

I had to delete some pages and all the morphing snaps from the old template as there was some incompatibility (probably because it was made with the previous version) that was causing Aether to hang but I have redone all those parts and made some more snaps so I think it's OK now.

Post

Wow. This new 1.5 sounds superb! Only thing what annoying me, is 15-20% cpu-usage on idle @ my Q9550 processor.

been using it for a few days now, got to say this is off the hook... love it!!!

Just chiming in with the reason for my purchase....

Four days trying to get to sleep, while turning over the pros and cons in my head :x

The cpu hit had me most concerned, but after testing with many different cpu monitors, it would appear that my Hosts are telling lies.
Reaper and Cantabile report 12%, Samplitude says 15% - but even XP Task Manager reports less than 2%...

So, after much deliberating, I'm the proud owner of an Aether license. :D

AND - No Dongle :tu:

Hi,

very quickly, cpu usage meters inside hosts sometimes include estimates on the stresses placed on cache and memory subsystems and other things as well as just simple raw cpu usage. the nature of aether is such that it puts a lot of stress on cache and memory subsystems particularly when running the new extreme quality modes... so some host cpu measurements may show it to be higher than the opperating system cpu usage meter that usually only includes raw cpu usage. which is correct is really dependent upon many different factors such as what other plug-ins are being used etc. but generally the host cpu meter does not tell the whole story perfectly and if your other plugins do not stress memory bandwidth you will be able to do a lot more than you would think based on looking at the cpu meter. this is a quick generalization at least...

With all due respect, shut up and go find those sea turtles so you don't tick off the GF. More importantly, have fun!!!

ya, you're probably right. lol

A quick question... Is there a way to save a preset so that it loads by default at startup, rather than starting with the 'untitled' one?

Post

regarding loading last saved preset:

if you open settings.spt file in a text editor you can change

<LoadLastPreset: 0, int>

to

<LoadLastPreset: 1, int>

this will tell plug-in to remember it's state as a file preset on closing and load it on start-up.

note: this is a shared setting for all instances.

settings.spt file is located in
(in windows): in plug-in folder
(in osx): inside 2C-Aether.component[vst]/contents/resources

Denis (2C-Audio)
