I'm thinking between this or the Dimension LE with Garritan Pocket Orchestra.
I'd very much appreciate it if somebody could post some samples with more traditional symphonic / orchestral sounds.
Thanks!
I certainly don't want to talk you out of getting in on this, but I don't think orchestral sounds are not the focus of any of these xpantions. Symphonic Strings will give you some nice strings. The GM set will have some of everything, but not like a focused library. Miroslav Philharmonic will give you all of that... only it's not part of this GB.

Squids can help you better than this, and he may know one of these libraries that can better suit your needs.

As it was me who started the Sound On Sound thread, I feel I should apologise for my lacklustre "damned with faint praise" original post there. I really should have waited until I was in a better mood! Hey-ho.
Hi rich_h:

I didn't realize there was another thread at sound on sound regarding this group buy. What is the link?

Thanks.

The reason the demos you've heard are focusing on unusual effects is because that is (in my opinion) the Cinematic Collection's strong point. You might want to check out Symphonic Strings, which seems to have a bigger emphasis on strings rather than effects. I don't have that one, so can't comment.

Here's something I improvised real quick using the Cinematic Collection strings;
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3049335/Cinematic_strings.mp3

For me this doesn't cut it for strings, and neither does Garritan (for me). I'd recommend East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, even if you can only afford the Silver Edition. You can always upgrade later. However, this might not be within your budget. (Note: I'm an EWQLSO Gold Plus user, which is in a completely different price class from the Sampletanks).

For new readers, here is my demo of the aspects of the Cinematic Collection that are more exciting to me personally:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3049335/Jon%20C ... ration.mp3

Edit: It is definitely possible to get better results with the Cinematic Collection strings than my improvisation. I was just improvising for a few min on my MIDI controller using presets (sometimes with a reverb or a delay added)

But, I am making a pitch to IK to release some larger sized focus libraries some time this year for SampleTank that have one or two great pianos in one library, one or two killer drum kits... instruments of the 500mb size range. We've never done it to that extent in SampleTank and it might be a nice option... not in time for this group buy but perhaps some time this Summer.
That's ok I didn't expect a 500mb Piano overnight. :hihi:

But it's indeed good news that some larger samplesets are on the way. I'll certainly be a potential customer when they arrive. It's not that I'm obsessed with size it's just that Sonic Reality makes great samples, SampleTank is a great sample playback synth, computer Ram is dirt cheap so let's take this baby out on the highway and see what she can do.............. :D

Please help a brother out. Has anyone bought this on esoundz and already owned Sampletank 2 XL?

I bought this on esoundz. In this thread, Squids mentioned a free sound pack for existing Sampletank 2 XL users, and the order page on esoundz mentions "Don't forget the Raise the Deal "Wild Card" Library From Sonic Reality on top - only when you purchase Xpansion Tank 2 from esoundz!"

Are these 2 different added free sound packs? 1 for sampletank users and the wild card library? Where do I get these? I don't see them in my esoundz account or a way to get them in the order confirmation e-mail I received.

There is definitely a free esoundz exclusive pack that is not yet released. So, you haven't missed that one yet.

I'm not sure if there is any other pack except that one.

YouTube videos were requested a couple of pages ago, so I have one for those who are interested in OmniSynth 2. It's a tutorial video on how to work with MIDI files in Podium, but it may still be interesting if you want to see how to set up the program change map and hear OmniSynth play a simple GM MIDI file. The video compares the sound of the Microsoft GS synth, a GM soundfont and the SampleTank/OmniSynth. The SampleTank part starts at 3:30 in the video:

Job well done Cognition. I really enjoyed that and downloaded your Mp3, even though I already have the Cinematic Collection. It will serve as a good reference for what can be done.

Number 9. Number 9. Number 9.

Actually there are some great "clean" orchestral presets including a couple a nice percussion presets with timpani. The traditional presets are not in great numbers, but there are definitely a few really good ones that could be used extensively for orchestral scoring. There are some solo orchestral instruments, as well, and a pretty nice sounding piano that is less processed than the one in Cognition's demo.

I'm very happy with the collection. If there was a sequel, I would buy it. :-)

Really? I missed a bunch of pages early on, so I can't confirm this. But I am one of those longstanding SampleTank 2XL users who bought from eSoundz. If this is true, I'm interested. 8)

Squids wrote on page 3 of this thread:

"This week we're going to announce some exclusive extras including a bonus library for people that already own Sampletank - but this is only if you buy it from esoundz.com on the link I just posted."

There must be a more detailed post after ( that week has past), but I can't go digging it up :)

You have to buy it from the link to esoundz in the first post of this thread.

noob question, but what exactly is the 4 for 1 free? If im correct, the $50 gets you the sampletank player thing and 30 libraries from the xpansion set, but what exactly do you get free then??

There are 30 to choose from. You buy one, and get to choose three others to get for free out of those 30.

I'm afraid you are not correct. :o

The 4 for 1 means that you get to pick 4 of those Xpansion libraries. You don't get all of them for $50. Chances are it will end up being a 6 for 1 reward, though... so you'll get quite a few for your investment. And they're worth it. Even one or two packs would be a great deal at this price. :-)
