I have been demoing both the last few days and I just can't decide what to buy. I love the Interface of TH1 and the sound but I also like the flexibilty of Amplitude 3 which sounds more harsh to my ears overall. Can anybody who knows both chime in and help me make up my mind please?

I dunno, I never could get into TH1. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it or anything but for my tastes IK has always fit the bill.

TH1 has had some discounts in the last few months, or are they back up in price?

Glad to see that. Here's what it comes down to.......which one makes you smile the most? If TH1 is doing it for you then go for it. It's a great program and like you said, the interface is really cool.

Very personal choice ...
Both have their strengths.
Atm AT3 wins hands down as an allround package, but still there are some sounds where TH1 has its moments.
Maybe a fairer comparison would be AT3 against a hypothetical TH-2 ?
Some things Overloud really need to improve on imho is the GUI (most clunky award - the winner is ... :x ) and their amps' feature sets.
With simple vintage amps details like a bright switch or mixable normal/bright inputs make all the difference ...
Another thing I don't like is they didn't fix bugs for a long time (take the loading time issue with recabinet for example).
There has been so much (mostly positive) discussion of AT3 I won't repeat all that, bottom line : you probably can't go wrong with that one, but as always with IK, choosing the best promo or upgrade/crossgrade path might be worth a closer look.

And for sake of completeness, check out Guitar Rig too.
Depending on your priorities this could also be an alternative.
Still, from a traditional guitar player's point of view it's AT3 imho, even more so for bass players.

45 minutes later throwing all sorts of guitar, bass and synth samples at AT3 I am decided and will purchase this one. Man, what a killer app this is, forget TH1...

i actually have both and i think at3 is the better for me.
Th1 does sound very good tho and i would have been happy with that as my main rig but at3 looked so cool, was at a good price for me and i had the money.
I still use TH1 sometimes its still pretty darn good, its my 'holiday' rig :)

I have both and I agree with what you say above. I hate their GUI and have been complaining about it and they said to me I was the only one. which I found very hard to believe, I cant' be that differnt. Apparently you and I are the only ones, but the GUI for all their stuff especially the preset browser to me is extremely horrible.

To me AT3 is more flexible. TH! was my favourite (I also have GR3 and 4 and AT1 and 2) until AT3 came out. If I had to only buy one I would do AT3.... hopefully there is a TH2.

Couldn't agree more.
I definitely asked for TH-1 UI improvements on several occasions, directly as well as in forum discussions.
Once the initial eye candy factor has worn off (i.e. after 5 mins :P ) all that scrolling really gets tiring, and I'm on 2x26"... :roll:
Add the somewhat unpredictable drag'n'drop behaviour and the weird browser/preset system ...
My ideal UI would be along the lines of Guitar Rig, with two columns to allow for parallel routings, and optionally a double click on a module would open an expert view.
AT3 UI is also good but nothing beats the overview of the UI outlined above.
But all that is only UI, soundwise TH-1 is rather good, some FX even fantastic.
Like you I do hope for a TH-2, we have healthy competition between IK, NI and Overloud, let's not forget the fine freeware scene (LePou, Acme and others), and this is good for us users. :tu:
Talking about freeware, I preach it all the time, Bootsie's FerricTDS (sidechain up high, saturation low, compression to taste) should be an integral part of any ampsim chain, it sure is that good. :love:

exactly to me. GR has the best of the interfaces, pity it didn't sound as good as either of the other two....at least no one mentioned the line 6 company as a serious contender :-)
