There really should be an option for those that simply do not care... meaning they'll buy the plugins they want regardless of copy protection method or lack thereof.

A dongle, since I already have both iLok and Syncrosoft... But I wouldn't easily add a third, different dongle. I don't mind serials either, or keyfiles, although these things seem to get lost when migrating to new pc's (regardless of backups and NAS).

To be perfectly honest I hate dongles and with 2 (or more) seeming to be required to get a lot of software working I am not surprised that people try to work around the need for it. I prefer to buy software with serials and dont mind challenge responses.
What I totally opose is why I have to buy a piece of inadequately built plastic that is less than durable to rely on software use at an over inflated price!
Dongles are great for machine to machine and on resintalls or new systems but I much prefer just to enter a serial.
Why software developers are passing on the costs of their perceived business loss to users, their customers is beyond me!
I buy software and dont mind the dongles but only one should only be necessary and developers/manufacturers of goods relying on them should provide free replacements and short term alternatives.
I know there's arguements of car keys etc but I see software as totally different as no one is going to steal my software. i dont have a lock on my PC.
I would be interested to see if the manufacturers and developers actually see a margin of difference with a dongle or without in their sales pre and post protection implementation and work arounds. After all I dont see Native Instruments going out of business or Ableton to name a few.
I believe companies should look within at their possible short comings and be realistic over non protected goods.
Would a majority of people who use unprotected software actually buy it? Probably not!
Nowadays there are so many quality freeware that you probably dont have to buy expensive software, another reason why software should be cheaper and not so heavily protected!
That's my steam let of!!
End of it is I do not buy any other software if it relies on dongles. I go without or wait for an alternative solution. Otherwise I buy the software :

I call BS. How could moving possibly have anything to do with breaking a dongle? Dongles have a thumbdrive formfactor: i.e. made to be carried around. Especially the Steinberg one is really sturdy... I've never broken, not even damaged or scratched a dongle or memory stick due to carrying it around.cptgone wrote:it's nearly broken too (had to move twice recently).
