How about a dongle free full version to buy?
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?
what is the purpose?

My thoughts exactly.

If the purpose is to discourage most laptop users from buying the product, then yes of course having a non-dongle copy protection would indeed defeat the purpose.
:hihi:

Anti-piracy. Harder to crack, but as always it will be eventually :( .

At least the dongle free demo version will allow everydody to taste the Polykobol II flavor.

And it might be a good experience :)

Btw a lot of Kvr threads seem to concentrate nowadays on "oh it has a dongle ... so not for me" followed shortly by " Oh it has a dongle .... So what" .......

What if we could concentrate on the sound and features of new gear, instead of opening endlessly the same old can of worms ?

People who dislike dongles have their reasons, and some have good points. Now -imho- I dont think that totalising half of the posts in every synh/effect/daw wich comes with a dongle will make their reasons more valid, or the instruments sound better or worse ?

it would be nice to concentrate on the sounds and features...but if you cant demo it.....

there is also the subject of 'does it work on my pc'...so its more than just the sound etc...

a dongle free demo version can answer all these questions

I agree with you Lotuzia.

But, I think that potential customers do have a purpose in letting it be known the developers that they are interested in the synth and that the only reason they will not be buying is because they refuse to be inconvenienced by a dongle. I think developers should hear that. What I don't think is useful is people trying to convince a dongle-hater that the dongle is just fine. It's better for some, desktop users mainly, but worse for others.

So yeah, there's no place for dongle "debates" but there is a place for saying "this synth looks awesome, sounds awesome, it's unfortunate I won't buy because of the dongle".

Anyways, let the PolyKB love continue, I'll just hope they do another audiomidi LE version no-brainer some day! :)

I agree, sound is more important than protection. They need to make Universal dongle that is uncrackable, like 256-bit dongle that hosts the plug like RECEPTOR. but they would find a way to crack it.

Well, the only thing that I think might be a positive with the inevitable "dongle, not for me" posts, is that it might give the developers a little look into what sales they've lost. Not only from the person who posts, but their word of mouth marketing which is pretty important for a little developer. Frankly, I don't care about the dongle, but I will mention that I was unable to get the demo license on my dongle with my Windows Vista 64 system. I had to put the license on there using my old G5. (let's start a thread about how Macs are better! :hihi: )

I liked PolyKB but the default screen size doesn't fit on my large (21") monitor. That's basically a UI FAIL in my book. I didn't have a long time to futz with it, but I'd put it right up there with XILS-3, but for me it comes at a time when I'm less interested in software for such things and way more interested in hardware. I've got so many great VA VSTs and a few decent analog synths. The next VA I buy will have to do analog as good as the real thing or offer me something very different than what I have. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, not sure. It just didn't make me reach for my credit card. Maybe I'll give it some more time tonight.

Hi ZeroC,

Yeah the default gui is too big for me also I agree BUT ........

........ With the preferences you can switch to a smaller Gui, wich was my very first request for the PolyKB, and it was a divine surprise to see that XilsLab were very responsive and FAST for this request.

The PolyKB -imho- has a very analoguish signature. Different from ImpOSCar, the Korg ones, also ACE or Dcam, to compare it with newcomers. But it has its own merits and the polysequencer and the crazy spatial FX add a lot compared to some competitors and to make it a very distinct unit.

Btw if you guys, while testing it, has some fresh ideas and request please post them in this thread :)

Of course I can't be sure they will be implemented, but at least I'm quite confident they will be heard :)

Hello

First, email server issues are now fixed, so feel free to contact us if you need.

As Lotuzia said (thanks for reminding), I read and I'm always interested in all your ideas and suggestions about our products. Not all of them will be implemented directly, but all can be used in various ways to improve the pleasure to play music (maybe in other products).

I uploaded the dongle free demo which can already be downloaded on :

http://www.xils-lab.com/pages/PolyKB_Ch ... -demo.html

Don't forget the reduced GUI : option->display->Reduce GUI Width. The effect is taken into account on the next launch.

ok, so as they were good enough to make a dongle free demo, i thought i would try it

1. GUI too big..changed size, still too big..doesnt fit on my screen (and whats with the HUGE keys? )
2. presets take too long to load
3. CPU is huge, typically 40% on a one note sound...
4. GUI is not easy to work with (apart from size)...3d type knobs dont look great and the labels are tiny in comparison, hard to navigate

soundwise...well, nothing special here..its targeted to a niche market i guess, certainly not me.

nothing personal, thats my honest opinon :)

How long to load? On my not so powerful host it takes about 0.5 sec.

Same here except the sequencer seems to the CPU killer.

Really nice demo, the synth has its own distinctive sound. Will need to test a bit more, but it's really nice to see (hear) virtual analogs progressing so nicely.

As for some of the perhaps less appreciative comments you may be getting, always remember this is just kvr.
