I'm not telling anyone off; just pointing out that if you was mature enough you'd show some restraint and be grateful for what you got. Now go to your room.V'ger wrote:You tell us all off and compare us to children, and then boast about your good manners?yellowfever wrote:The way everyone is saying 'I want this, I want that' is like watching a petulant 5 year old in the sweet shop, when he already has a pocketful of candy. It would be nice to stay on topic... when you consider the fact that it's been 4 years since Synth1 was last updated, and it's the first time that Ichiro has ever been on the KVR forum. Is it too much to ask for a little respect? If you want to ramble on and on about unrelated things I'm sure there are other places for that. Thank you.
Also, for those here who feel that anyone showing an interest in Synth1's further development is behaving like a spoiled child, grow up. We appreciate what Ichiro has done for us just as much as anyone else does. If you ask me, it would be an insult to be appathetic - to say, "We're not asking for any improvements, and don't have any suggestions". What you are really saying is "you don't care". And I for one, do care.
I know I already asked earlier about support for Win98SE, but it was given a low priority. I kind of find it ironic how everyone says Synth1's low CPU usage is an important factor, and how it can run on old systems. No one has ever complained that it uses too much CPU. So I don't really understand the reason to switch to SSE, lowering the CPU usage even more. Why? On modern computers CPU's are faster, so the savings in CPU use is probably minimal. But by using SSE, you can't even run it on older computers.
I would understand it if the VST was using a lot of CPU. If that were the case, then it wouldn't function well on an old computer. And if it used an extreme amount, it might not hardly work at all. So the usefullness of it, would be limited at best. Upgrading it to SSE, would therefore have no real impact on it's performance on an old computer. However, using the same, "high-CPU" VST on a modern computer (already equipped with a faster CPU) along with SSE optimizations, makes sense.
As far as I can tell, the one's who are benefiting from improved performance (SSE), are the one's who need it the least. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The coders only have so many keypresses before they fall dead, they have to keep up with the market, to provide for their families, and serve their employers. historical anomalies. A small fast 2010 vintage linux installation
using Reaper to host Synth1, is a pleasure to compose music on. I have an old PIII using linux that easily runs 8 synth1 instances with only 512 meg ram. Right or wrong is not
part of the discussions involving the continued support of aged and inferior hardware
and software. Competition insures this.
Cheers

hello ichiro, and welcome to kvr. you are a star here, synth 1 is one of the most popular vsti's on the planet, if not _the_ most popular one.daichi1969 wrote:Nice to meet you good evening.![]()
My name is Ichiro Toda(daichi). I am a developer of Synth1. Thank you for having you use Synth1. I am tempted into Teksonik now and write in it at this forum.
I intend to update it steadily in future.
I will sometimes write in it at this forum.
I am sorry, but I please do not ask a too difficult question because I am weak in English.![]()
I use the automatic translation.
you have my deepest respect and it feels good to have you here, finally.
i'm a professional sounddesigner since 20 years, i made patches for most commercial synths, hardware and software, and let me tell you: even i love synth one just for what it is, and i use it regulary, so thank you from my side, too.
however, since you're here now i have to take the opportunity to ask you for some enhancements, it's just too tempting.
could you maybe:
- allow for mor voices? 16 is way too low, as i often use synth 1 in unison mode.
- implement the parameter morphing feature just as real nordlead has (that would instantly turn synth one into the most close emulation of the nordlead there is). alternativeley, a dropdown - slot - modulation matrix (source -> destination -> ammount -> interpolation value) would be a dream come true.
- fix the bug that the 4 voiced chorus makes the pingpong delay monophonic tapping.
- a global oversampling switch to reduce aliasing when using any kind of distortion/overdrive/saturation, fm, sync or ringmodulation.
thank you again for finally finding your way here!
ps: i sometimes have various midi hangings in various hosts, when using the mono modes. could you possibly look into this issue?

I understand the concept of "if you don't change with the rest of them, you get left behind", but if you mean to suggest that Synth1 is attempting to compete with big commercial developers - I don't see it that way.glokraw wrote:The coders only have so many keypresses before they fall dead, they have to keep up with the market, to provide for their families, and serve their employers. I've thought about using Linux, but I'm so accustomed to Windows it wouldn't be an easy transition for me. From what I can tell, installing apps seems to be a complicated thing.
Hopefully we will hear from Ichiro soon.

At ease people. It is not a question about if, it is a question about when. With so much hype and buzz going around here on KvR regarding this update, and the fact that Mr. Ichiro Toda san has a really hard time understanding what we say, let alone what we would like to see altered, and I'm one with BigTone since this is such a big temptation, we still need to help Mr. Ichiro Toda san as much as possible. So my suggestion is: Use google's translate function. It is really good and it helped me translate my wishes into japanese in a matter of seconds. Afterall we are his customers, and if we can't take the time to translate our comments, suggestions and requests then how big chance is it that Mr. Toda san will respond?
