I have had no problems for years and now it appears my account is gone!

It did this to me too. You need to go into your browser's internet settings and find the IK Multimedia cookie (in Firefox: Tools->Options->Privacy->Delete individual cookies) and delete it. Then log in again. And it will work!

Great deal! However, I have difficulties here to get Sampletank working on my Vista 32 bit system. (Other programs install and run fine.) Please help!

(1) Nothing worked after I installed the program at first (wrong/not working start menu entries, registry errors, DAW crashs).

(2) After many installs, un-installs and re-boots I finally found the solution on the IK website: SampleTank requires administrator rights to run and get authorized.

(BTW, thanks for not mentioning this in the Installation and Authorization Manual! You owe me 2 hours.)

(3) OK, did so, authorization worked. But I still get errors when I load the VST in my DAW (normal user account). Only works if I run my DAW as admin - what is neither smart nor convenient to do.

What did I miss?

PS: Were the 5 activations ("only 4 activations left") mentioned somewhere before my purchase? Didn't find them either on the IK nor the Esoundz website. What am I supposed to do after the 5th installation?

Don't worry about that at all. You'll probably get numerous additional "free" SampleTanks before you run out of those 5, and each one will come with new activation allotments. I've been with IK since 2003, and I don't think I've ever gotten beyond the second activation. In any case, IK Multimedia are a customer-friendly company. If there is some reason why you have used all of your activations and need some more, a simple phone call or e-mail to them will probably get the situation rectified free of charge.

Don't most applications require administrator rights to be authorized? I have to enter my administrator password with the installation of almost everything. But I'm on a Mac.

Sorry you are having some troubles... but you will be shooting yourself in the foot if you start off by thinking of IK with annoyance. They are a great company, and your overall experience will be better if you just forgive these initial hiccups and start loving them. I know it is annoying when things don't go right, but things will be looking better very soon.

With regards to activations - I had this same question before. I believe you send an email to support and they will reset when you run out of activations.

I installed the world instruments collection and there don't seem to be any child patches

are they a separate install?

Don't worry about the activations. I did go over my 5 once and was given 5 more. I sent a support ticket and got my reply within the hour.

I noticed some plugin companies offer 2 activations. I hope they are as helpful as IK.

Sorry for the rant!

I was angry about A LOT of wasted time. I am aware that IK products work perfect for most users and that IK knows how to program (un)installers, how to implement smooth authorization procedures, and how to write manuals.

Yes, a few do (I'm not talking about installation, though). These programs usually ask for admin rights when started, or mention this requirement in the installation manual. For some unknown reason, that didn't happen here.

Anyway, I will contact IK support. Just thought that someone else may have had my problem (Sampletank not working in Vista's non-admin user accounts) and found a solution.

And yes, I LOVE THE SOUNDS!

I think that was an oversight that will be remedied later. But Squids actually posted the child presets in THIS thread for the following packs:

Cinematik Collection
Hip Hop Instruments
Word Collection

It is somewhere between pages 35-45, if my memory serves me correctly. You should be able to find it within a few minutes if you go looking.

You just drag all the child presets into the Pak folder in your SampleTank library and then press RELIST in SampleTank. They will then show up and your pak will be complete.
