Basically you have taken your control zone and decreased it considerably, coupled with the frequency range smaller speakers like nearfield monitors have and it's no where near the same as on stage with an amp (unless you're using a tiny amp).
The reason we're not getting that guitar cab kind of feedback is partially due to the fact that the smaller the sound source the more directional the sound is. Add to the fact that we're using near field monitors and that means even more directional than a basic home stereo speaker. Is someone in this conversation really using Logitecs? If they are they should smack themselves and go home in shame.

None of this really has much to do with an amp or amp simulation. Put an amp in one of those amp isolation boxes and monitor it in another room wearing headphones and your amazing feedback machine has it's testicles removed. You mention "artificial feedback" but I'm not sure what you mean Hink. Acoustic (kenitic) feedback is just that. If you're talking about Sustainiac systems (I have one) I highly recommend them. Really good and very controllable. You can dial them so that you're just getting a tiny bit of life, or crank it so you feel like you're standing next to a full stack cranked up.
artificial feedback was a poor choice of words due to a lack of a better term at the time. I'm speaking of using a compressor, I'd like to know more about the sustain systems you talk about, I have thought about trying a fernandez.

You're right about how to get feedback, my point is that's against my abilities with my current living conditions. I'm very anal about disturbing my neighbors, I can do well as I said just using my boogie in this room and using my Ted Weber box to lower the volume and as long as I separate the cab from the head I can get it low enough and get close enough...but still I worry.

I separate the head and cab of course because if I get too close to the head I'll pick up the transformer and that would defeat everything.

I like that feedback that seems to be right on the edge of getting lost, like when you bend or use a whammy and it seems like the bending is going to break up the feedback and then the feedback comes rushing back in. Feedback with for sustain is one thing, what you do with that sustain is another. In my performing days I found such things got a rise from the audience which has a ripple effect boosting everyone's experience during the performance.

But recording isn't performing, hence my feeling of something lacking.

I've got the stealth Sustainiac and I love it. You loose your neck pickup, but the Sustainiac transducer actually functions as a pickup and I really like it. I had it professionally installed so it seems like a stock feature. On a strat you could install it yourself, but my steinberger didn't have enough room for the second battery as it's emgs already use one and I don't like to route. The other way to go would be their model b which actually uses some sort of electro-acoustic transducer clipped to the headstock. One of these days I'm going to get that one for my g&l. I have a friend who loves his. I think either way you go you'll love it.

2 questions, why do you need a second battery?

whats wrong with routing? As long as you have a dremel you're all set. My dremel has the gooseneck so I'm like a dentist, I can't imagine life without a dremel and my bausch and laumb magnifying visor with 3 different powered lenses.. :tu:

edit: I hate soldering, I'm just so sick of it...I wonder how one the transducr clip would sound with my hammered dulcimer (which uses to piezo pick-ups about the size of 2 bits)

Sounds cool. :hihi:
zerocrossing wrote:That way at least you can continue evaluating it. I admit I only got to spend a night demoing Vandal and I didn't like the sound at all, but then I was out of the country for a few weeks and now there's no going back.

Exactly.

Well, I'm a bit of a klutz when it comes to wood work so I try not to touch my instruments with power tools, especially because it's a pretty expensive guitar (Steinberger). I'm OK with soldering, but again there are people who are great at it and why not help grease the economy, eh? I have a guy in SF that does great work. Anyway, the first battery drives the EMGs and the second drives the Sustainiac. The shop put in these super cool little battery compartments that swing out and it makes them super easy to replace. Remind me to tell you about the time my Steinberger Bass's battery crapped out while I was peaking on acid. So many tiny little screws! :wheee: But I stuck with it and changed it. I'm a trooper. :hihi:

Ah. Acid. It all makes sense now...

(BTW, if you're peaking too much in ACID, try the iZotope compressor. )

Well from an earlier post on this thread I did try the Vandal amp Sim. I like it nice sound easy to use. It reminds me of Guitar Combos in a way. Still AT3 is my favorite.

I just read this entire thread, lol.

Damn, we can't even agree on what an ampsim is supposed to be? It's just funny.

I bit on AT3 and I'm very happy. Money was a consideration. I still think the fx in the GTR3 just blow away anything I've heard, and I'd put the GR4 fx in a firm 2nd in that area.

Somewhere I hear IK screaming, but the amps/cabs in AT3 are better than anything to my ears.

I own Revalver, checked out Vandal but just was not that impressed. Sorry.

Gotta love all guitarists. :hihi:

Until Vandal came along, if I picked up my Strat I would play through Amplitube Fender. If I picked up my Ibanez I'd play through Guitar Rig 4.

I have also been extremely impressed with a lot of the freebies from AcmeBarGig, Nick Crow, Ronald Passion, LePoulin etc. So looking forward to Shred 2.

I had really high hopes for Amplitube 3 as I was really impressed with the Fender edition, however my ears just aren't tasting the candy I'm afraid. Many of you have described it as plastic sounding and I couldn't agree more. I'm really not hearing much improvement over the Amplitube 2 series.

So going back to Vandal, I have been really blown away by the tone this thing generates however the stomp boxes are bit of a let down however. But thats not a major issue.

The way I have been using it as a standalone is to use Peavey's Revalver as a VST host which gives me the option of adding pre-and post effects and also having 2 instances of Vandal (L+R) for true stereo delights (using the phase switches on the mics on one channel).

You've just got to love the CPU appetite Vandal has. Where Amplitube will scoff a plate full of Big Mac's and leave no room for dessert, Vandal is happy to nibble on a cesar salad leaveing plenty of room for those hungry VST Synths.

today I spent quite a bit of time with my baritone, mesa boogie head, ted weber attenuator and trying everything from kefir with recab to all of my sims with the amps defeated. GR4 won out on this though not with the control room, the rotater with a rotary cab and a second feed from the splitter going into a 15" emulation was great if I went lite on the rotary. A little dream theatre sounding, the bari is tuned to Cm (GCGCEbG) :tu:

I love lots of em and the NEW RevolutionZ (new free amp sim)from Ronald Passion is worth checking out - it loads IR's too (just click on the logo)

between Acmebargig, Lepou, Passion, Crow, etc. there's a whole lotta great stuff that's ABSOLUTELY FREE... and I spent lots of my hard earned cash on some of the big-guns but these boys are amazing me...
