Post

wow! well there's my defences weakening.. might have to start looking for a good phone deal.. my current contract is up in about a month.
I wonder how well its going to work- latency, cpu drain, background noise etc

edit- just read specs, same latency as p.c
i wonder if you need their hardware plug or if you can just use a normal 1/8" adapter or whatever size iphone plug is?

Post

Ah I've just posted on this too:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 21#4084221

maybe Meffy could merge it?

Doesn't say anything about recording though - can't see the point of it if it can't record into the iPhone (for me)

Post

I'm looking at that thinking how does it work - there is sound card that uses the head phone jack to get signals in and out of the phone that does the processing? How does it do that ???
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

No, I think you need a special cable.

At the moment I use PRS Guitarbud cable to connect my guitar to the iPhone.

I'd be very happy not to have to lug my laptop, guitar and interface on the bus 3 times a week to work just to use amplitube.
In fact , hey i could plug in on the bus and jam on the 50min trip! :hihi:
I'll leave the recording for home on my laptop..

surely you'll just have the guitar and case - you will be really popular with the person on the seat next to you

i'll bring some drumsticks and let them tap along on the back of the seat in front

No, there's an iRig "adapter" that goes into the headphone jack of the iPhone which provides a 1/4" guitar input (presumably attennuated a bit to go into what would be the headset mic input) and a 1/8" headphone / line output.

I got that - but if the iphone does the processing and the headphones come out of the adaptor thing then the connection to the iphone is duplex - and I just can't see how you do that down a headphone jack

Looks good though - I'm just intruiged how it's done

Yeah, those Apple folks are clever. The headphone jack also works as an input.

I'm really digging the concept of iRig. The portability of it really opens up a lot of doors.

Between this, propellerheads rebirth* for iphone/ipad, and the korg electribe app; I think I might just have to pick up an ipad this summer.

I totally dig Android and fully support open standards, but man! There are some serious apps coming out on the iphone platform.

*Whoops...I meant to type Rebirth above but typed Reason instead. It's now edited.

It's not a regular headphone plug that goes into the phone. An extra ring is used for the mic on the headset, maybe even some clever wiring for a button to pick up calls and hang up.

No, there's just a ReBirth reincarnation available (which is fun enough) and a remote control for some basic functions (start, stop, rec, ff, rew, etc) on Reason & Record.

Does that enable recording of audio? I really don't care about stomps etc - just looking for a way to digitally record audio using my iPhone
