I'm finding the negative GUI comments curious, but that's all cool; to each her own. I've tried to integrate Jamstix fully into my workflow -- I've owned each of the versions, funnily enough -- and always found previous interfaces opaque and odd to work with. This is the first Jamstix GUI I get completely. I think it rocks, actually.

Cheers.

Let me mention something I particularly enjoy about Jamstix' sounds.
Imho they are very close to how a real drumkit sounds in a real room.
Not as obvious as it seems - many other drumkits are almost completely raw recordings that take a lot of work and processing to get right - the Superior- or BFD approach
Others are completely produced (overproduced ?) how somebody thinks they should sound on a record - but was he thinking of your record ?
Run Jamstic through a drum group with FerricTDS and Density Mk II - might be all you need to fit in the mix.
To further shape the sound you could run individual outs for certain crucial kit pieces like kick or snare, processing them and then routing to the group as above.
Anyway it's pretty easy to arrive at a straightforward, honest live drumsound.
Of course with expert mixing the sky's the limit ...
Great job, Ralph !

koolkeys wrote:Ok, I'm having the problem with sounds only being in the left. I have downmix selected, but the snare is only registering on the left side. Even in the meters in the Jamstix mixer, only the left side is making sound. In the Jamstix output on the bottom left, only one side is rising on the meter.

When I turn OFF the downmix and switch to using multiple outputs, everything works perfectly.

Any ideas?

Brent,
check in options if you have stereo outputs enabled, might be part of the issue.
Hopefully that will solve it for you ...

I'll check that, but not all the drums do it. Only certain kit pieces, most often the snare. Some drums still come out just fine with a full stereo signal in the mixer. That's what is so confusing. And it doesn't seem to happen when using multiple outs(which is what I typically use anyways, but it's still a little annoying).

I'll post more later.

Jamstix 3 looks awesome...

However I've still noticed in the demo with the gui open I get rare but repeating audio spikes leading to dropouts... That was one major reason for me not to buy Jamstix 2 as well. Ok in version 3 it seem to be less pronounced but it is still there... When I close the gui all seems to work fine...
Best regards, TiUser

Has anyone tried using it to host Battery? It gave me the "change the output number" message and when I did and restarted it crashed Live. I was able to get it running after that, but I couldn't get it to properly work with Drumaxx.

I agree with Susi about the kit sounds. They're especially decent when you consider the cost of the package.

Yeah, you've got to close the GUI for it to work properly. I'm not sure why they can't fix that.

If memory serves me correctly, there's a post on the Rayzoon forum already about something like that and the solution to it.

Who did the gui for Jamstix3? Was that a Scott Kane gui just before he did a self detruct on these forums?

I'm totally indifferent to the gui-I'm not crazy about it, but then again, I don't hate it either.

koolkeys: drop me an email with rzdlog.txt from My Documents\jamstix3 and I'll look into your issue.

TiUser: We are working on further improvements of GUI speed and may have an update out this weekend or early next week. That update will also fix timing issues for users with high latencies.

Doug B: yes, the GUI was started by Scott Kane and then completed by me when he dropped off the radar.

Thanks. I just sent you four log files that were in my directory, along with the general description of what is happening for reference. Let me know if you need more!

For all I've complained about the GUI, I bought it last night and it sounds/performs several times better than it looks imo...............barring being unable to get the Jamcussion kits working, fixed now, but the reason was hardly obvious to me.

If you've put that fix into a new Jamstix 3 demo let me know - I'll give it another shot then...

The Jamstix idea per se is great. Wished there was a "Jambass" too... but ok, somewhere you state you will not challenge auto accompaniment - no you didn't - you did much better... :D

VSTs that behave like players and are not just plain technical tone generators will boost every ones music making... my :tu: for more here...

Great advice, susiwong :). I don't own BFD, so cannot speak about that, but find that Jamstix really sits nice in the mix^^.

I didn't receive a download link (or my spam folder ate it), bought the pre-order months ago. But as usual Ralph will surely answer very soon (sent a pm at rayzoon), so I'm looking forward to play with the not-more-beta soon^^.

I like the gui, and I had no problems with Jamstix 1 and 2 views too. It's just such a superb tool to make music.
