SubSessions not always triggering sound

Hi,

I've got version 2055 of Cantabile performer and have nearly got everything how I want it. Now fully paid up and registered.
I've set up set lists containing sessions and sub-sessions and I have noticed that where a song has sub-sessions the vsti's (mainly Mtron and B4II) are not always triggered even though I can see the right racks have been enabled. If I go back a song then forward again it generally does it right the second time round. The problem is, we intend to use Cantabile for live performance so there is no room for this sort of thing.

I have tried delayed loading and instant but both suffer from the same issue.

Any suggestions?

Update: I've noticed that this only happens where a session consists of 3 or more sub-sessions. The first sub-session loads fine but the subsequent ones need to be loaded twice. I've also noticed that muting and then un-muting the vsti activates it.

I've noticed something odd too. While bypassing / activating rack slots with subsession changes seems to work it doesn't always with suspending plugins. Maybe the background of this is the same as lordanthony with his bug description.

Thanks TIUser, your reply made me think. I bypassed and muted each inactive rack and now can switch between them.
Also, restarting the audio engine each time triggered the sound ok.
It does appear to be a genuine bug.

...I do my best... :D

I sometimes have also issues I am not sure if I see just ghosts or if there is something else... only way is asking here.

I am sure Brad has noted this thread already and will look into it asap... he always did.

Hi lordanthony,

I've been trying to reproduce this but so far haven't found any issues. A couple of questions:

1. Are you bypassing/muting/sleeping plugins or racks or both?
2. Are you using a single session file with multiple sub-sessions, or are you using a setlist to switch session and sub-session?
3. Can you send me a copy of the session and/or setlist files that you're having trouble with?
4. What is the exact issue you're seeing? The plugin/rack appears enabled but no sound?
5. Any other information that will help me repro this?

Sorry Brad it's not my initial thread but my probably related observations had to do with 4front Rhodes and 4front EPiano. They seem not to start proper when suspended, it needs flipping to these subsessions twice to get them running again.

When I just bypass these plugins session changes work normally.

Probably this is related to these plugins only, I haven't done further tests.

I can confirm this as a definite problem for me.

Background (sorry if this is little convoluted)
----------

I am using Cantabile as a host for playing sounds in a live show. I'm mainly using Hypersonic 2 and Kontakt 4 as my VSTi's. Cantabile is running through a MOTU Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid. I'm also using Miroslav Philharmonik for a couple of sounds and a plugin called MIDIForce2Key which is very useful for doing tuned harp style glisses and arpeggios etc. I have that plugin in a separate rack with several instances of it that can be either activated/suspended or bypassed/not bypassed, set to different 'tunings' and route to it when I want the notes I play (eg. white-note gliss) forced into a particular key.

I am using a succession of large sessions with lots of sounds loaded on different MIDI channels and using sub-sessions to create patches out of the sounds, each drawing from a large list of MIDI routings.

The problem seems to be this:-

If the initially loaded sub-session in a session has a plugin that is suspended, then when a sub-session is reached that un-suspends it, it will not activate although the screen indicators will show it as active. The MIDI data is not passed through to the next rack either, so no sound is heard, even if the suspended plugin was not the one making the sound.

The only solution I am happy to use at this stage (since I can't risk a 'no-sound' scenario) is never to use the suspend feature at all, but instead just use bypass, which doesn't seem to be affected. However, I can foresee other scenarios where it will be desirable to use the feature, especially when using plugins that place a heavier drain on resources, such as Ivory or some string libraries that require lots of memory.

Therefore it'd be great if it could be fixed ;)

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Many thanks :)

i have a similar problem where the first subsession plays fine, but not the 2nd or 3rd when i scroll through first time around, but second time around they all seem to play fine. annoying and scary, but i just got used to scrolling through all 3 subsessions at least once before playing.

first subsession uses Sonar Studio Instruments electric piano, 2nd subsession is Truepianos, 3rd subsession is Ivory Italian Grand. i'll experiment with the bypass and suspend settings.

I had one session the other week with over 100 sub-sessions. I don't really want to have to scroll through all of those in both directions before playing. :)

Did I see another thread about an experimental build that fixes this?

I've just put up a new experimental build which I think fixes this issue. Could someone please check it out and let me know.

Brilliant :) Will do after my show finishes today.

Hi Brad.

I haven't checked out all options but the new experimental built seems to work out the subsession problem for me. I stay tuned if I notice something again, but the fix looks good.
