Thank you for your insight on this concept, Brok. I was completely unaware of the complexities of my request - just selfishly, thinking out loud on what additions would make the synth more interesting, to me.brok landers wrote:i'm afraid the 2nd amp env isn't that trivial, as up to now the amp env is _after_ the filter, and for what you want there have to be 2 amp env's _before_ the filter, for the volumes of the osc's directly (which would be just great).SciFiArtMan wrote:Thank you so much Daichi!!! so essentially 3 things would have to be changed (which i think isn't so easy because preset incompatibilities):
- there have to be 2 additional envelopes for the individual osc amps. the amp env after the filter has to remain as a global amp env, as thisone detemines, when the voice is triggered and when it is becoming inactive.
- the osc mix parameter must then be replaced by 2 individual osc amp level knobs.
as much as i'm with you on these feature requests, i really doubt that ichiro does this for obvious reasons ...
Well, maybe some of the other ideas could work!?
I WOULD respectfully like to see backwards compatibility with all legacy patch banks, as much as possible. And I agree with the idea that maybe any future developments that do not allow backwards compatibility might fall under the label of Synth2 - if this isn't just blasphemous!

bump out of importance. this behave is just plain wrong and has to be fixed, pretty please.ouroboros wrote:I can confirm both, brok - it's been like this for a few versions. Since 1.07, or maybe earlier. (.06 ?)brok landers wrote:bugreport v.1.10:
bug 01:
- even if the chorus level is set to 0, the delay recieves the chorus output (wet only, not the dry signal) this is so on all 3 chorus modes.
one has to switch off the chorus in order to kill the chorussed wet-only-output from the delays input. differently spoken:
the level slider of the chorus does adjust the dry signal of the chorus mixer.
but it should let pass the dry signal unaltered, and adjust only the wet signal of the chorus mixer, where 0 means, only the dry signal feeds the delay, and max means, 50:50 dry/wet signal (or whatever max ratio ichiro has intended here) feeds the delay.
to recreate this bug, do the following:
load this patch:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2633218/chorus_bug_01.zip
you will hear that the delay only recieves the wet signal of the chorus, even though the level of the chorus is 0. if you set the feedback of the chorus to 0, there's no difference, as the dry signal of the chorus isn't present, but the wet only signal of the chorus mixer, which, if the feedback is 0, needs the original dry signal, to get the desired chorus fx.
bug 02:
- if the chorus is in 4 stage mode, the pingpong delay is screwed up (even if the level of the chorus is 0. same problem as above). the delay is not altering the sides anymore, i assume this is because a strange crossfeed in the chorus.
to recreate this bug, do the following:
load this patch:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2633218/chorus_bug_02.zip
play it with short notes. notice that the delay isn't exclusiveley on one side with each tap. turn off the chorus with the switch to hear how the delay should behave the right way.
please anyone confirm.

i think it's certainly not impossible, but has to be well thought over before implemented because of the stated reasons. and i think (again, i'd just love to see individual amp and pitch env's for the oscs) it's not really easy to be implemented, that's all ...SciFiArtMan wrote:Thank you for your insight on this concept, Brok. The more updates we see, the more "Synth1" evolves into something... else.
This is troubling me to be honest. Can't we just get maintenance updates rather than massive upgrades? I like Synth1 as it is, I only wanted it to be more future proof. Now it's... something completely different!
I really do hope we have the chance to download elder versions, just in case.

I already pleaded a case for non-sse (of any kind) a while back, but it's unfortunately not a priority. If anything it should've required the least amount of work to make this change... no work at all - since that's the way it was originally. Oh well, what ya gonna do? I'm all for backward compatability (if it can be maintained), but usually the more things you change, the more likely backward compatabiltiy gets changed as well. Anyways.. Thanks again Ichiro for all the time and effort you've put into this and continue to put into it. I hope you realize how much you've done for us.martin_l wrote:I am just wondering whether I am the last person who is still running an old 32bit AMD Athlon as DAW? (It is just as a hobby for me, I am not a professional musician or producer.)
Anyway, it was sad to see that I might updates of synth1 from 1.11 onwards, if only the sse2 code is kept. If there are some more like me, who try to squeeze some music out of an old box, it might be worthwhile keeping a non-sse2 version; especially since synth1 is so easy on the CPU.
If it is just a matter of compiling a second time with sse2 optimizations disabled, it would not cost much extra work to keep such version. If, on the other hand, parts of the code are really written specifically with the sse2 instructions, it is probably not worth the effort.
But in any case, thanks so much for offering such great synth for free!

Thank you.
Great work, keep it comming. Love the new sub ocilator.
For all of those who want to keep Backward Compability and the like, why dont you just keep a "old" Synth1 version to?
Specially since we are getting so many good additions, it would be a wast being stoped by something like BC.

Admited with some undeniable humility, i'm afraid you've just denatured the purity of your "selfishness" (...or assimilated)brok landers wrote:bumping this out of pure selfishness ...brok landers wrote:edit:

hi ichiro,
i was finally able to play around with v.1.10, and i have to say that i'm wideley impressed! thank you so much, you have my deepest respect!
however, it would not be me, if i wouldn't have some feature requests ontop.
so here we go:
1. please extend the wheel/midi section to be a full modulation matrix by adding the following:
- add all lfo's and all envelopes as sources
- add velocity and keyfollow as sources
- add a "constant" parameter as source, that just adds a constant value to the destination. the ammount determines the added value.
- add a "random" parameter as source, that sends a random value, as son as a voice is triggered. the ammount determines the value range.
- add an "alternate" parameter as source, which toggles between 2 fixed states. the ammount determines the value range of these two fixed states.
- expand the slots to 16 slots.
2. seperate the noise from the osc's and make it its own osc and give it its own static, none-resonanced filter. this could do just what the "tone" parameter in the equalizer/pan section does, but right after the noise osc, before the main filter input mixer. it would basically need only two knobs - "level" and "tone". please make sure that we could still assign it to be the fm modulator for osc1.
3. the phasers need an adjustable center frequency.
4. the delay needs a sync switch. often i need the delay to be not synced to the hosts tempo (pads).
5. extend the mod env to be full adsr, just like the filter env, and make its parameters (a,d,s,r, bipolar ammount) availlable in the matrix as destination.
6. clone the lfo's to 3 and 4, so that we have 4 independant lfo's. integrate the routing into the matrix (that way we could have multiple destinations and ammounts for just one lfo, and it would save gui space, too).
7. make the count of the supersaw/superwave user definable. often i'd not need 7 saws/waves, but rather 3, so i'd give the supersaw/superwave a numeric box from 1 (no supersaw) to 7 (maximum count), or whatever count you have as maximum.
8. add an oversampling switch for all overdrives/distortions, as well as for fm and sync.
9. add one more value to the gate lenght of the arp (128), so that, when the voice is in legato glide mode, the arp doesn't retrigger the note, when gate is set to max.
of course these feature requests are only suggestions, i love synth1 just the way it is, but as you are here finally, in contact with us, i just had to try ...
thank you again, ichiro!

Since you missed it, this:pc999 wrote:For all of those who want to keep Backward Compability, why do you just keep a "old" Synth1 version to?
Obviously we can always use the whatever Synth1 version we're happy with - but it greatly complicates the sharing and playing of new and legacy patches. Patch banks will have to come with a version number - and the thousands of patches are a lot of what makes S1 unique.

But personally I dont see any problem with that.
It will give more work but you get a great "old school" synth and a great "modern" synth.
Just give a try for things like the subOc see how "modern" the sound gets, without to much (if any) effort.
It is worth it in my opinion.
I must confess I missed playing with the presets, but I still think it is worth it IMO.

I love good additions as much or more than the next guy! And I'm very gratefull to see this wonderful softsynth get some new features and updates - I just wonder that at some point it fails to be Synth1 anymore, and maybe starts to become a new beast - with exciting new possibilities and directions! And the point of departure might very well be the backward compatibility issue, IMHO.pc999 wrote:...Specially since we are getting so many good additions.

not at all. Just think the guy is getting swamped with ludicrously obscene amounts of 'requests'. Just give him a break is all I'm saying. And who you calling a clown??Krakatau wrote:BTW ...are you a fisherman ?
