But the rest of the original band is from Portsmouth and Gosport I think. Anyway, as you said the 3 number ones are by two separate bands.

Another clue then - one of the band had a number 2 hit as lead singer of another band in 1965 and 3 out of 4 of the band members had a number 2 hit under a different name in 1970.
