MIDI Controller Assignment Issue

i'm noticing strange behavior between my midi controller assignments from my keystation pro 88 and Cantabile. not sure if the problem is coming from the controller or Cantabile, but i need to sort this out.

i have a roland ev-5 pedal plugged into the back A-38 jack on the keystation pro 88 controller, which is connected to my computer via usb. i use the pedal to control the leslie rotation speed of my VB3 organ VST. when i originally programmed the pedal it was recognized (using learn mode) as "Controller 3 on Keystation Pro 88 channel 1", and everything worked great. then, the pedal stopped working, so i went into see what happened and noticed the pedal was now being recognized as "Controller 5 on Keystation Pro 88 channel 1". so, i went into all my sessions in Cantabile and updated it and everything was fine. then it stopped working again, as of my last gig 2 days ago, turns out the pedal is now being recognized as "Controller 67 on Keystation Pro 88 channel 1". this is very tedious to go in and re-assign everything.

i've not changed anything on the controller. am i doing something wrong in Cantabile? any other advice?

This is much more likely to be the Keystation than Cantabile. How do you set the pedal assignment on the Keystation? Could there be other software that is changing it and leaving it set to other CC numbers?

after a lot of trial and error, i discovered that when i press the program button twice on the controller, it puts me in controller assign edit mode. then pressing either + or - will change that value. not something well documented in the manuals.

during a performance, i move from session to the next session by hitting the program button once, then the +, which takes me to the next song. in the event i accidentally hit the program button twice, pressing + then changes the midi controller assignment value rather than changing the session.

frustrating little things. i shall seek alternative ways to change sessions.

This is precisely the problem with a lot of the current crop of MIDI controller keyboards - they don't have enough foot pedal inputs so you have to use buttons, then they make those buttons multifunction so you go and accidentally change the values.

In my view stuff like patch changes needs to be done on a dedicated pedal and then still leave you with enough pedals to do sustain, volume and stuff like leslie or wah.

This is why I'm getting a Kurzweil PC3X tomorrow :D
