Are there any other non iLok/dongle compressors worth checking out along with The Glue and Pro-C?

The most transparent compressors tend to be mastering quality ones, but that means higher latency. If on the master buss, this may not matter, but it will on individual tracks.

Both of these (Pro-C and Mode 1 of MixControl) and then also as mentioned, T-RackS Otpo.pandashake wrote:Pro C and Mode 1 of MixControl is probably the cleanest I have. Both are pretty transparent while doing their intended job. For grit though, I LOVE the PSP Oldtimer. For no more control than you're given with that thing, it does wonders. And it can do the "cleaner" thing as well - just switch off the valve emu.
I did really love the PSP Oldtimer, but never purchased.... I'd have to agree that with much of what's been said and that Oldtimer is not one I'd consider a transparent compressor, but maybe you don't want a transparent compressor? There's absolutely nothing wrong with some tasteful coloring.

It's in the ear of the beholder. The tasteful part.elxicano wrote:There's absolutely nothing wrong with some tasteful coloring.

I'm not sure how it was missed, but the Sonalksis SV-315 is IMO the best transparent track compressor. Sinus' Peak Comp is also very useful and free.

Ok, after doing some searching around I've just downloaded these demos :-
FabFilter Pro-C
PSP Master Comp
PSP Old Timer
Sonalksis SV-315
Stillwell Major Tom
Stillwell Bombardier
Voxengo Marquis
Voxengo Crunchessor
Voxengo Deft Compressor
Jeroen Breebaart RedPhatt Pro
Sinus Peak Compressor
I will also be demoing these against Stillwells The Rocket, Bootsies Density mkII, Blockfish, ReaComps and Antress Compressors.
I can't think of any other compressors (without iLok/dongle) worth trying out?

Surely that oldie-but-goodie freeware Vanilla Compressor must be floating about the web somethewheres. I just wish it had a gui with a gain reduction meter. Still, might be worth checking out!
