I don't know what fuller means, but if it's punchier, then you're messing with the transients(?)I would like the compressor to make the source sound fuller and punchier without pumping or messing with the transients.
Cleanest most transparent vst compressor?

First one that came to mind for me too.Liero wrote:You're looking for a transparent compressor AND you like bombardier and density and old timer, compressors that aren't really that transparent? Hmm.
The most transparent and flexible compressor ATM is Fabfilter Pro-C.

Sorry I missed that.dickiefunk wrote: I have mentioned that I am looking for a compressor that doesn't color the sound of the original source.
If you don't want any color (that is frequency response changes or saturation), then you should stay away from hardware emulations and anything claiming to add "character".
So if you want the sound to be fuller that is have more body (the decaying part of the sound after the transient to be louder more prominent) but at the same time leave the loudness of the transient unchanged in relative to the loudness of the rest of the sound, then that sounds like a job for a compressor which uses RMS to detect the loudness of the signal so transients don't effect the compression too much but the compression is rather based on the overall loudness of the signal at a given point. In contrast a peak compressor would react to the peaks of the transients specifically. Anyway that way you preserve the punch (that is transient impact (that is loudness of the transients)), but to make it more punchier I fear you'd have to specifically deal with the transients, or you could use a compressor with a short RMS time (so it reacts quicker to level changes) with a slightly longer attack time (so the initial transient slips through untouched while the compressor then reacts and brings down (condenses the signal, making it fuller) thus making the transient appear "punchier" while it was not changed much.dickiefunk wrote: I would like the compressor to make the source sound fuller and punchier without pumping or messing with the transients.
Anyway of cause you can not leave the transients 100% untouched.
So one possible compressors (from the top of my head) would be:
ReaComp (with RMS size some couple 10ms, maybe classic attack (it delays the attack and lets transients slip through))
Plus there are many more...
Anyway this is how I would deal with that problem.

Probably any digital compressor.. oversampling may deliver some "clarity", the Waves SSL 4000 sounds great, for digital transparency just turn off the analog switch. I'm currently using Elysia Mpressor alot, probably THE best sounding VST comp i've ever tried, sounds way more analog than the SSL 4000 'tho.
Transparent compressing would be all about the volume relationships and attack and release times.. so any quality digital (no analog modelling) comp is capable of this.
Oh yeah, Flux PureComp would be ideal for this. The auto/fast release sounds great on many things.

You elitist scum. You are a douche bag. I hope something heavy falls on your head and kills your passive-aggressive arse.yellowfever wrote:Or, rather than using compressors, you can always just choose the right sound in the first place or layer sounds.
Why such animosity, you ask? Because you deserve it, you yellow prck. You know in your heart of hearts, the emotional bent you had when you entered into this thread. You did not seek to help, or to answer questions. Your aim is to make other people feel dumb for asking questions. To make people feel foolish for even trying, because your own lack of success has embittered you. And that's a fcked up way to move through this life, you prck. I hope you get help.

You read all that into me asking the OP to clarify the context of his question? The post directly after my initial question seemed to clarify what I asked on page 3.futurefields wrote:You elitist scum. You are a douche bag. Obviously. But that doesn't change the fact that you didn't even want to help the OP find a good transparent compressor. Instead you wanted to shit talk compression in general. Real way to get things done.yellowfever wrote: Chill out; I think you need the help my friend.

Well done for derailing.
@the OP, I hope you find what you want but I'm outta here; if YOU took any offence at when I was trying to appreciate your question fully, then I apologise.

Well done for derailing.
This is implying that compression is unnecessary. I suggest you take a voyage through the last 50 years of pop music.
