I just got an ipod, and it's great. I can control things in live with the ipod automap app.
With regards to the apps, you can either get them directly onto your phone or pod or do it via i-tunes on another computer, saving for an ipad now!

i am going to take the plunge after recently buying an iPod Classic (the biggest capacity one for storing music at the quality i wish) after dodging the things for many years. This brought up a discussion of whether or not i should go for the 'touch' model (after an intial 5 minutes of my friend on the other end of the line who was buying for me as i don't have a card for dropping the hammer on items on the web so i give him cash, missunderstanding me and thinking i wanted i an iPad - Communication Breakdown
) but since i end up putting about £30 a month on this POS mobile phone i currently use and a contract for an iPhone 3G costing £35 a month its a no-brainer really
So that voided the 'touch' as pointless. My two kids love all the strange games on it too and its this that makes it a double no-brainer; as it will keep them happy as well (although i will have to get two of as the kids won't share - so im gonna get one for my Momma since she could do with a mobile phone anyway, it was the same when them Nintendo DS things came out and to this day i have to buy two of every game they both like to avoid sheer carnage!
). I'll admit that i really buried my head in the sand for ages regarding anything with the letter 'i' before it by Apple since i am pretty technophobic but i have been missing out by doing so. No more do i have to cart a load of CD's around in my backpack and a jumpy so-called 'shockproof' portable CD Player around with me for 'music on the move' which despite being obvious to many already, is quite a revalation for me at least anyway
Regarding apps budd1405 - i am not so well up on what is available music making wise but i have been told there are quite a few good ones and also things like a Peterson iStroboSoft tuner, an SPL meter, Two good apps from 'Planet Waves' for guitarist's covering every chord and scale/alternate tunings, metronome and what not (Chord Master And Scale Wizard), another similar app called 'Guitar Toolkit' and a an app called 'FourTrack' which is cool for laying down ideas and also if you use the onboard mic a grotty sampler/lo-fi field recorder
. I do remember on one of Computer Music's covermount Discs they had a plug-in which also had been developed into an app which looked like quite a nice little modular synthesizer (can not remember the name but someone on here will know it/have it), iZotope's iDrum looks good for the money also for micro beats. Then there is some piano, drumkit things a friend has which are not bad and free IIRC - the drumkit one is quite shit sounding but you can record what you tap in and store it so is cool for grotty drums. Think the most strange one i am aware of via a recent issue of Sound On Sound was the 'iAccordian' which to play properly you need two iPhones of course!
Looking forward to hearing/keeping an eye on this thread for when i get my lazy ass down to the local store and sign up for two myself
All the best

Edit:
i meant to say thanks for the information that an app can be transfered from windows xp to an iPhone as that is the way i will be doing it no doubt
how rude of me/pardon

Pretty much same boat as im in Shane mate, since i have seen how much fun my 7-year old and 5-year old Son and daughter respectively have playing around on friend's iPhone's it sort of made my mind up for meshanecgriffo wrote:my phone plan has run out and i can get a new iphone with the same company for $20 extra a month ($55 which gives me a $350 call/sms cap limit +250mb data) so i'm tempted.. on top of phone duties i'll be looking at killing a bit of time for the 2hrs a day i'm on the bus to work 3 days a week, with a bit of music app fun and light internet browsing and also will no doubt buy the amplitube gizmo/amp software when it's released.(i take my laptop at the moment to the music workshops i run, to run amplitube-, so i may be able to do away with that in the future)
So just wondering what are peoples experiences.. worthwhile? pitfalls
joys, disapointments?

Had an iphone - got shot of it
Basically did not like the lack of flash or the browser but otherwise was quite impressed for my first i -item
I do remember the annoying thing with most of the audio apps I used was there was no way to export your creation - you don't have access to the file system so you can't store things and I am not going to use the headphone audio out
I'm sure that has probably changed but it was dang annoying back in the day
in truth the only thing I miss was a rough and ready guitar tuner

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

I believe that Cubase has a remote control app for iPhone/iPodtouch. I haven't tried it, mainly because I don't really need it, but someday I'll get around to it, just for the cool factor.

this will, i imagine be possible soon
wireless midi keyboard/controller-> iphone /app sound library
for live playing of lots of sounds without computer
(so iphone functions as soundmodule)
or what about vst wrapper app(with a playable piano keys screen) - load vst's on iphone... i wonder if that's possible! (something like 'chainer' so you can add fx chains too.!
