Bigelf

Bigelf - Counting Sheep (audio only, my favorite song so far, displays their musical range)

Bigelf - The Evils Of Rock & Roll (official music video synced to live footage)

As someone from youtube posted: "This is what happens when Black Sabbath and Deep Purple make love and have a child... They named that child Bigelf. "

I never heard of this band before (even with all the prog rock threads that always pop up here), but I unexpectedly saw them open up for Porcupine Tree recently, not knowing PT had and opening band on thier U.S. tour. They are a psychedelic prog doom rock metal band that thinks it's still 1975. The singer plays lots of Mellotron, B3 organ, Moog, located to either side of him center stage. The guitarist thinks he is Tony Iommi, soundwise and looks :hihi:. Very Black Sabbath influenced soundwise, but often sounding like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Yes, to name a few. Their songs are like a mixing pot of vintage 60-70s prog and psychdelic rock, often with a heavier driving rhythmic sound. Their songs are full of lots hooks and melodies, not overtly long or operatic, but more in a pop context, still with lots of orchestrated layered ear candy. It is kind of cheesy on first listen because you can tell they where their influences proudly all over their sleeves. But it's refreshing to know there are bands that keep that spirit alive, and can still be original, and they can pull it off live. And they are not arrogant prog musician wankers, but they still can play their instruments pretty well
