Possible you could tell us which are free and which are paid and how much?
Thanks

and which are 'must haves' (if not all)

and on which can you export your creations in any meaningful format
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

OK, first off, shanecgriffo, one man's must-have is another man's meh, so I can't really comment on that. I'll just say that these apps are pretty useful to me and leave it at that.

BERFAB, prices I paid are added to the amended list below. Some may have changed since then. I've noted which ones have free versions, too.

ericj23, not sure what you mean by "meaningful" but I've added some info below as well.

Air (interactive aleatoric - Brian Eno)
€1.59 - no export.

Trope (interactive aleatoric - Brian Eno)
€2.99 - no export.

Bloom (interactive aleatoric - Brian Eno)
€2.99 - no export.

Aura (interactive aleatoric)
€0.79 - no export.

synthPond (dunno how to describe this)
€1.59 - no export but supports OSC.

DopplerPad (synth, sample-playback, sequencer)
€7.99 - wifi WAVs to computer, also copy & paste audio to/from large list of other iPhone apps.

SoundGrid (sample-playback sequencer)
€1.59 - wifi WAVs to computer, upload to SoundCloud, FREE version available.

TonePad Pro (one sound sequencer)
€0.79 - no export, FREE version available, PRO just adds ringtone maker.

GrooveMaker (sample loop playback/remix)
€3.99 (various "packs" available) - wifi WAVs to computer, FREE version available.

Bebot (synth)
€1.59 - no export (synth only).

Jasuto (modular synth)
€0.79 (PRO version €3.99) - FTP WAVs.

bleep!BOX (drums/perc/synths sequencer)
€7.99 - wifi WAVs to computer, FREE version available.

Xewton Music Studio (sample-playback sequencer)
€15.99 - wifi WAVs/MIDI files to computer.

BeatMaker (sample-playback sequencer)
€15.99 - wifi WAVs/MIDI files to computer.

Noise.io Pro (synth/loopmaker)
€11.99 - wifi WAVs to computer.

JR Hexatone (percussion synth sequencer)
€7.99 - wifi WAVs to computer.

FiRe (field audio recorder)
€7.99 - wifi WAVs to computer.

Omni Live (Omnisphere live mode controller)
FREE - communicates with Omnisphere via wifi.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

EDIT: OK, dammit, I'll divide them into the following categories:

Fun/Useful as Musical Sketchbook:
TonePad, SoundGrid, GrooveMaker.

Musical Entertainment/Meditation/Sleep Aid
Air, Trope, Bloom. Aura.

Seriously Useful in Studio:
Xewton Music Studio, BeatMaker, bleep!BOX, DopplerPad, soundPond, Bebot, Jasuto, Noise.io Pro, JR Hexatone, FiRe, Omni Live.

Kind regards.

looks like i will get one tomorrow!
i was about to sell my soul friday but didn't have enough I.D on me
(the telecoms are getting a bit fussier nowadays)
had a look in the apps store-pretty cool, i do a bit of photo stuff (mostly our toddler nowadays) and there's a few fun things for that too.

Isn't it a bit bad timing getting an iPhone now? There's a new one right around the corner.. perhaps wait for that one to hit the streets first and then get the older model cheaper?

Anyhow, the iPhone is by far the best phone I've ever owned. As a phone it's only mediocre (much worse speakers and microphone than any cheapo Nokia) but as a full entertainment/utility/gaming package it is unbeatable. Very much worth every penny. Heck, I even use it as my main "browser" at home. I'm often too tired after work to setup the laptop.

Cheers!

its a pretty new plan and a reasonable price with discounts as i can bundle it with my home phone/internet.
i dont think it will come down much from that here in australia for a while
They'll just charge quite a bit more for the new one!

my partner was a bit shitty as i am going on a more expensive plan (and i think she is warey of the cult of itouchy things) and we're pretty short on cash usually so i said that iphone can replace lots of things that i can now sell.
-zoom h4 (if i can get a good mic for iphone)
-zoom pocket guitar fx (which i throw in my bag for workshops when i cant be bothered lugging my laptop) will be replaced by irig.
-guitar tuner
-old iriver mp3 player
-nintendo ds and korg synth pack
oh , and my old nokia n73!

Cool post!

Yeah....the iphone and now the totally AWESOME ipad have changed and are changing EVERYTHING. I'm an older dude and am really having fun watching these incredible technologies unfold right before our very ears!

I just made a track that was inspired by the very cool App called Sampletoy:

Here's the track (bizzar down temple thing?):

at first i'm going for 500mb per month data
i dont plan using it often out and about (maybe check kvr on the bus), if i need to do serious browsing i'll find a cafe with wireless hotspot, also at home we have wireless and i'll download apps to my computer first, so usage will be minimal i think (i spend quite a few hours public transport a week but will probably play with music apps and listen to music mostly)
anyway, i've read about data usage happening in the background etc, ..anything to watch out for, or any adjustments to make to minimise these hidden traps?

got it.. installing some apps now!
