Quite nice and much better than my own experience with the Axe-FX! I like that you can hear the woodiness of the guitar, it sounds like you're playing a 335. :)
These are more in-line with my experience with the Axe-FX. Since I don't want to get into yet another pissing match about this, I'll just leave it that these clips aren't my cup of tea and I wouldn't play any amp that sounds like that.

Someone didn't read the title of this thread. ;)

Still, that's some bad ass shredding all the same!

Hi Eric,
sorry, completely forgot to comment on our Nebula suggestion.
Personally I'm not one of Nebula's biggest fans unfortunately, so I only have the free version.
Last time I checked all the cab impulses worked exclusively on the commercial version.
Btw, my problem with Nebula is neither sound nor price, it's the usability that completely gets on my nerves, all of it.
The moment they install a decent version- / update system and hide the technology under the hood like for example cab impulses in AT3 I'll be first in line to buy a license.
Right now I just can't see me using Nebula to replace my high quality algorithmic EQ and comp plugins.
All that said, if there were a single HQ cab available for demo with the free version I might eat my words ...
Thanks for the suggestion anyway, :)

Why the heck would someone want this?

Because to some people, the program feels kinda clumsy. To put it lightly.

Yeah erm i know it ain't no blues man and veered OT  but since we got onto talking about speaker cabinets and microphones area i let em fly, Seriously i just can not for the life of me reproduce satifactory results using anything but 'the real things'...but i am totally open to suggestions/tips/new technology...etc. which could maybe answer my problems Eric mate.
I mean its not so bad since i have what i need to get the sounds i need but a software alternative is just not around from all i have tried: Maybe one day i will be able to fully retract this claim though *im hoping*

All the best to you and all

Dean

btw: i am a shocking blues player if anyone hadn't already guessed

Exactly, I prefer turning knobs to searching through impulse files.
I rarely use convolution reverb either, at least not for emulation of hardware units.
To each his own.

Susiwong was involved in a thread in 2005 where I made one of my first (if not the first) posts on KVR, and the main point I was trying to make was to use both a compressor before the cab IR and one set differently after the IR - makes for way better amp "feel". It still works, and now it is much clearer to me why it works....the second compressor crudely represents the dynamics of the speaker and cab...

What do you guys think, this thread is veering way OT and there's another thread going now called cab sim development that would be a perfect place for you guys to get your ideas out for how cab sims should and could work. This has been on my mind for quite a while now, and I think there's more to be done in this area than any other in amp simulation.

Count me in later today, this certainly is an important and highly controversial topic. :tu:
I recall your ideas from back then, unfortunately not in detail.
Do you still have a link ?

Im in :) Thanks for the heads up

Cool! Looking forward to having the conversation, susiwong and NEKRO.MACHINE and whoever else decides to join in!

Nope, I can't find a link...even my "your posts" section only goes back to Feb. 2006 for some reason, but I remember basically what the setup was....it was the Simulanalog JCM900 on the clean channel into one instance of the free Kjaerhus compressor then into Boogex for the cab IR - with the amp section of Boogex bypassed (the "Tone" control in the amp section is really more like a mix control, full ccw bypasses the amp section altogether if I recall correctly) then into another instace of the Kjaerhus compressor, then Kjaerhus delay and finally into a very early alpha release of AriesVerb (Maybe...I think that was my favorite reverb then)- works with pretty much any brand of stuff though, and I think we can figure out a better way.

Some interesting discussions there. :)
And your concept certainly was 5 years ahead of its time ! :tu:
Still, allow me a different view about the best way into the future, I'm not sure more complexity is the best solution.
I posted a few related thoughts in the new thread, see you over there.

Hmmm...guess I didn't start posting until 2006...forgot about that.

Hey - hope I didn't accidentally end the blues amp discussion with the cab sim development thread link....Uncle E and other blues guys - got any thoughts on speaker cab simulation development? The more input the better!

Maybe I should add that ime this type of sounds is best achieved by rolling down the guitar's volume and tone a bit and compensate by increasing amp gain or, even better, using a good mild OD or boost pedal.
While this might sound weird at first, there is something magical about the way a guitar (without treble bleed cap) reacts and sounds then, try it !
An added bonus is the subtle boost you can give to sustaining notes by playing with the guitar's volume, Brothers In Arms anyone ?
That's with hardware, with ampsims it depends on how realistic your guitar input / DI emulates the PU impedance loading of a real amp's input stage.

I've got a pair of ToneRider Rebel 90 humbucker sized Alnico II P90's that I've been putting off installing in my SG for over a year because I ended up liking my stock 490's way more than I thought I would - but I've got to get all the soldering crap out anyway so I think it's time. How am I going to like P90's for blues rock? I like the neck Gibson 490 but not so much bridge 490 - how are P90's in the bridge position? Neck position?
