I want to thank Daichi for creating Synth1. It's really amazing, perhaps the best freeware virtual synthesizer ever created IMHO. It sounds great, it's very flexible and it's simple enough for a noob to program.
I wish I could donate...
I'm glad the fix was made to save some settings into a *.ini file rather than the Windows Registry. I dislike messing about with the Registry or anything else really deep with MS's slop.
These days I'm using a laptop with that 64-bit Vista upgrade and I don't want to screw it up because some program requires an edit into that Registry.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't understand how the new version works with presets. Is Synth1 able to read presets from a ZIP file? If so... how does that work? I looked through the thread & didn't see anything specific... maybe I overlooked something.
BTW... THX Daichi!!! The updates are fantastic!!

I have used this for a very long time, and the new banks system is the bees knees. I haven't figured out though, what the sequencer/bars arp looking thing is. What have I missed in the readme?
I'm gonna live forever, or die trying.

you mean the 32 muttons below the unison section? that's a visualizing of the voice management, you can't edit it. it shows you the active/inactive voices while you play synth1.xerimoiras wrote:I have used this for a very long time, and the new banks system is the bees knees. If you install 1.12 there will be a folder called 'zipbank' under the folder where you installed synth1. Copy any zip file containing presets into it and they will be available in the preset selection. E.g. download the zip file 'Patches' from here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=723, copy it to that folder and you'll have a collection of most public available presets (8000+) at your fingertips.
Note: Presets which are found in zip files in this folder are displayed in the 'External' section of the preset browser and are read only and also cannot be selected from the possible existing preset switchers in any host program.
You may also change the location of the 'zipbank' folder from within the options dialog of synth1.

DragonSagoth has the 10th post (on page 1) of this very topic. Good luck.

Greetings & many thanks for updating synth1!
I have one question though.. Is this 1.12 update fully compatible with old patches?
I read earlier that there was some changes in the engine, but I wonder if the patch compatibility has been improved since..?

Yeah, you can simply ZIP the folders in my signature, and you'll have them installed in no time at all!

"DOWNLOAD --> 87 Synth1 Banks (approx. 8700 patches!) available in SECONDS!!!"
Well that is an amazing amount of presets, I may have to check these out as my programming skills leave a lot to be desired

Yup. If you're using 1.12, disregard the readme and .reg file and just extract the folders out of the RAR archive, and compress it to a ZIP archive, and put it in the "zipbank" folder of Synth1. It will work!

Thanks, I figured something like that.brok landers wrote:you mean the 32 muttons below the unison section? that's a visualizing of the voice management, you can't edit it. it shows you the active/inactive voices while you play synth1.xerimoiras wrote:I have used this for a very long time, and the new banks system is the bees knees. So here's a totally, um, poor question: of what benefit is it? I mean, other than figuring out why a voice drops out?

that's exactly it. by seeing when a voice gets freed up, you can properly scale the voice count according to what gets played. i.e. if you play a pad, depending on the amp env release setting, it could get very voice intensive. if you can't really see when a voice is released, you have to tune the voice count by ear only (f.e. the filter closes fast and the sound is unheard, but the amp env still plays a looong, unnecessary release), thus maybe wasting cpu cycles by adding too many voices, or at least more than necessary. when being able to see the voice being released, you could assign a few less voices than those that are used by the pad to fully play all notes to the end. with pads this often isn't necessary, you can often cut away some voices that are still playing technically, but they're not recognisable any more at some point, thus wouldn't be noticed when cutted off, thus you saved cpu cycles.xerimoiras wrote:of what benefit is it?
