Hello, I have been trying for a while to come up with tracks but I find my self getting stuck. I am able to create nice percussive rhythms for the type of music I like (house) but I just can't for the life of me turn it in to a complete song.
For the past 4-5 years I have been learning the more technical side of electronic music production. I have reached a point where I believe I have enough knowledge to mix and I have a "pro" sounding setup.
I have had some basic intro to music (2 years in high school). But thats about it. So, what books would you guys recommend I read? :help:

-Thanks

I took music theory in high school, but didn't do anything with it for years.

The one I bought for use as a refresher was:

Harmony and Theory: A Comprehensive Source for All Musicians by Wyatt & Schroeder

I also like this book a lot, but it's not really a theory book:

Dance Music Manual, Second Edition by Rick Snoman.

Specifically written for computer musicians and with electronic music in mind I can thoroughly recommend Music Theory for Computer Musicians by Michael Hewitt (Course Technology, 2008). Its is well laid out and easy to understand with revision questions at the end of each chapter and a CD with examples and further lessons.

Yeah I also like this one too. It is very good for electronic musician. Unless you want to create classical or jazz music...

Best one I've found:

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory - Michael Miller

Edley's Musc Theory For Practical People (I believe that's the name...) was an extremely helpful book and cleared up a lot of cloudy areas in my theory.

I don't know if you can find it, probably just google it, but there's a free PDF online called The Ravenspiral Guide that is also a really good theory book.
