I made a short Dark Hip Hop Instrumental demo last night using DeepSouth, World Instruments, World grooves, Cinematik, DownTempo and Vocal Collection. This can give you an idea of the sounds included. I wish I had the time to add more sounds to it, but alas..

I kept everything as Sampletank-y as possible. I didn't have too much time to spend on this.. It's basically not mixed, aside from a limiter that I slapped on the master, 2 eq tweaks, and 1 compressor.

I like the way the drums sound a bit grittier/dirtier because I layered them with a lofi choir sound. It makes them have that crunchy Trip Hop sound (when the drums first come in. I dropped the choir sound after).

Does anyone know the name of the sound library Squids talked about when the group buy got underway?

Apparently it's a 1 gig library of previously unreleased sounds from SR in SampleTank format, available as one of the optional extras through esoundz.

quote from Squids' post:
(http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0)

Here are some of the options you will be able to choose 1 of per time you join on esoundz:

http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=4293& refcode=XT2KVR

• Exclusive 1 gigabyte "Wild Card" bonus library featuring previously unreleased ST sounds from SR and more
• Studio Drums Capsule (adds the ability to have individual kit pieces to make your own custom kits)

R.A.W. (Rex, Apple Loops & Wave) titles for use with Ableton Live, FL Studio, ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Stylus RMX, Reason, Sonar, Digital Performer, Tracktion and any compatible DAW or Sampler:

• Hip Hop Dirty South
• Trip Hop
• Blues Grooves
• Nashville Pop Grooves
• Vintage Rock Grooves
• Vintage Soul Grooves
• 60s Motown Grooves
• Jazz Grooves
• Country Folk Rhythms
• World Grooves

So what's the name of this "Wild Card" library? Is it simply called "Wild Card"?

Post

Still no Squid-word?

I haven't checked lately, has anything new shown up in the esoundz bonus area? I'd LOVE it if the two mistakenly posted libraries were added back in... The Best of Sonic Strings demo is spine-tingling!

Nice one, phileep! Love that didjeridoo. And that's a great tip about layering the drums with the lofi choir. I'll have to remember that one too.

torgo wrote:Many thanks on that one, Bradster. That's a huge red flag for me, as I have the Acoustic Drums 2 on my list of items to download and am also considering the Sonic Reality Studio Drums Capsule as a choice for the extra item from esoundz.

I asked long ago if anyone had both and had compared them, but I don't think anyone answered.
Hey torgo. In addition to what Ceej wrote...

Ceej wrote:Acoustic Drums 2 is actually the GM (but not I-map) kits from the Studio Drums Capsule, plus the I-map kits (ie, all of them, I think) from the original Acoustic Drums Expansion Tank. So it's not a straight equivalence; there's some stuff in each that isn't in the other.
You would get some good stuff in both that is not overlapping, but if you have other interests/options you might go for the alternatives. There are a few really cool sounding I-map Drum Kits from the Original Acoustic Drums which won't be in the Capsule. I love the toms in Mutha Kerz, and there are good kit pieces in other kits, as well.

Of course these drums, even while the single samples do sound great, pale in comparison to the playability and round robin and velocity layer scripting of the new Drum Masters series.

Great work pheeleep. Thanks for posting. Just listened a couple of times and wished it was longer. The groove at the end left me longing for further developments. :-)

I think they changed their minds about what the Wild Card would be. The Wild Card is now whichever library you choose as you bonus library, plus Squids has said that there is another surprise coming.

Is there a way to make the Sampletank 2 XT GUI larger? It is so small it is hard for me to work with... it would be nice to increase the size by about 25%...

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks...

Post

Thanks guys :)

Zedd, If I continue working on it and mix it proper, I'll track you down to give you a copy :) I was tempted to start mixing a bit but decided to keep things as raw as possible, aside from some gain adjustments, touch of eq in one spot.. It needs more instruments and I may finish up using other librairies... like Philharmonik :)

Its a fixed size unfortunately.. its tiny on my screen too.. I'm hoping ST3 will have a larger GUI but theres no official word on that (of which I know).

If folks find this helpful, I'll go ahead and Xpand this comparison to the rest of the R.A.W. titles that I own which seem to correlate to an XT title. I could use some suggestions as well...

As you were.

That looks like a lot of work.
It really helps me to understand what's going on here.
It should on the web site to help us buyers make the best choice.
And keep us from ranting when we get two libs that are essentially the same.
Thanks!

Agreed. Bradster- thanks for doing that. A definite help for sure!

If you're on windows try as a start
Start -> Accessories -> Accessibility -> Magnifier
Pick up one of the many magnifiers you can google for

It's no excuse for a scalable window and configurable fonts, especially in this day and age, but it's something.

Accessibility - has to be a top priority for any software maker today.
ST3 just has to have it.

Post

That magnifier tool certainly does come in handy. I used it when I first built my mobile multi-track rig.

The rig is 3 M-Audio Delta 1010s plus a rack full of preamp and direct box units, connected to a regular tower computer (at the time, there was no way to do 24 tracks of input on a laptop). It used Win XP and a specialty program called Multitrack Studio Pro Plus (by Bremmers Audio Design) to do the recording.

One problem was what to do for a monitor. Flat screens were too expensive and too fragile back then, and the big ones were too much of a pain to haul around and set up, plus they required an extra outlet to power them.

So I used a battery powered 7" portable DVD player that had a video input.

It was still tricky, but those magnifier tools made it possible to run a workstation and monitor 24 tracks of input on a seven-inch-diagonal screen.

It's not a perfect solution, but it ought to be a quick fix for any screen size issue with SampleTank.

Post

By the way, for anyone wanting to do live recording, that Multitrack Studio program from Bremmers is a great way to go.

The big advantage is that it writes all tracks directly to disk on the fly. Other programs make you save after the recording is done. It makes a big difference when you want to pack up and head out.
