It does come from the Film Orchestra 1 and 2. But keep in mind most people have no idea what that is! It was never officially released by IK. So when we created this we pooled from other libraries to make these new ones. I could have sworn that I listed which ones somewhere in one of the threads. I can do it again if you want... although the patch lists should help.blueman wrote:Interesting! Thanks for clarifyingChester Desmond wrote:Going by the Sounds list, the Cinematik tank is an exact replica of Film Orchestra Vols I and II which were part of the Miro GB. I almost dove on that one when I read that it was derived from the new Cinema Sessions but am glad I didn't once I checked the patch list. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, I just have it already.
I guess Cinema Sessions may use these same sounds just in IP format (or the IK page contains a typo)..Maybe Squids and co. will explain....

Hey, those old C-64s actually had some decent musical potential. There are people now making soft synths just to emulate the SID chip in the Commodore machines.
Odosynths made one, but their web site is currently unavailable.
Here's another: http://www.delamancha.co.uk/basic.htm
Yeah, the SID chip sound is STILL big in the "glitch/circuit bent" programming community...
The old SIDstation was a hardware version of the c64 sound engine, NOT hi-fi!
I don't need more help making things sound bad!
And I'm with you, as long as they're okay with giving more authorizations as needed, I'm okay too. Just seems easier for their support team to treat them like all the other products with their own 5, but I'm sure there MUST be a good reason... Anyone know what it is?

Here's a simple piece, Eight for one I created with one instance of Sampletank and every sound used is from this group buy.
It uses 2 sounds from the OB library. 2 Vintage rock grooves. A bass from the bass collection. 3 guitars from the electic guitar collection and one sound from the vontage keys collection.

Though I bought into this group buy as an afterthought and due to the extremely affordable price, these sounds have turned out to be a blessing. My motherboard on my music computer just went out a few days ago and I had to send it out for a replacement. So in the meantime I'm stuck with my old Dell Dimensions 3000 and I can't use any of my other more demanding sound libraries. Thankfully the sound in this group buy are not only small and less demanding they also sound pretty damn good considering the lack of samples.

I'm a composer and musicteacher. So I'm no marketing professional. I find it very interesting how companies sell their stuff. I understand the match-making metaphor. But when there are many of the same kind of product sold by different companies. What do they do to get the consumer to buy their product? They can say that their product is better or cheaper. But they can also get the consumer involved, even to the point that customer believes in the company and/or product.eDrummist wrote:When marketing is done well and ethically, I think of it as being a lot like match-making
I think all of this is completely fair and reasonable and good for the consumer and the business.
There has been written a lot about Imogen Heap. By making use of the internet and meetings in real life she build a big fanbase. She was no stranger in the music business, but her approach is interesting. Getting the fans involved.
I'm not taking about ethnics and fairness. That's a different subject entirely. I wanted to observe what is going on. Why do so many people buy during these groupbuys? Why are the treads of the T-Racks and this one so huge?!
Will there be a point when the market for music software will be saturated? When everyone has enough tools to make great music? Maybe I should do some marketresearch if there's a need for online composition-courses. Now I know who I should pm for questions about marketing

At first I thought it was a demo of "every sound" from this group buy. That would be a long demo!SaganTech wrote:Here's a simple piece, Eight for one I created with one instance of Sampletank and every sound used is from this group buy.
Fantastic work! I am really enjoying this one very much, and have downloaded it for future enjoyment.SaganTech wrote:It uses 2 sounds from the OB library. 2 Vintage rock grooves. Any chance you'd be willing to either share a screen capture of the instruments you loaded into SampleTank... or EVEN BETTER the COMBI for the loaded instruments. If you'd prefer not to, I do completely understand. I would guess that you did a fair bit of customization to some of those sounds, probably. You really made them work well together!

User Demos (edited)
I added SaganTech's demo and edited pheeleep's link. For some reason, the forum sometimes adds a space to url addresses.
Many thanks to DarkStar for starting this, and Peter for bumping it. I used their posts mainly... yes, I stole it!
I know. How could a Reverend do that?
If you need me to add any demos, or edit your demo info, just pm me... or you can have this job or posting the demos!
Hey, someone may give you epointz for doing this.

SampleTank really is a very quick workstation. With a little bit of research/knowledge of the tools used on the original recording and some ingenuity I was able to do a Floydesque take on the "Shine on You" Part I sounds in just a few minutes only using instruments from these Xpansion Tanks with no external processing of any kind (limited myself on purpose).
I used sounds from Vintage Keys, Cinematik, and SampleOB Xpander (and only one from each for the pad, one from SampleOB Xpander for lead). Mind the few seconds of silence at the beginning - I also only took a few minutes to tweak the export Smile

The reason the demos you've heard are focusing on unusual effects is because that is (in my opinion) the Cinematic Collection's strong point. You might want to check out Symphonic Strings, which seems to have a bigger emphasis on strings rather than effects. I don't have that one, so can't comment.
Here's something I improvised real quick using the Cinematic Collection strings;
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3049335/Cinematic_strings.mp3
For me this doesn't cut it for strings, and neither does Garritan (for me). I'd recommend East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, even if you can only afford the Silver Edition. You can always upgrade later. However, this might not be within your budget. (Note: I'm an EWQLSO Gold Plus user, which is in a completely different price class from SampleTank).
For new readers, here is my demo of the aspects of the Cinematic Collection that are more exciting to me personally:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3049335/Jon%20C ... ration.mp3
Edit: It is definitely possible to get better results with the Cinematic Collection strings than my improvisation. I was just improvising for a few min on my MIDI controller using presets (sometimes with a reverb or a delay added)

Some of the Beach Boy vocals done up quickly, starts "in the manner of the church" (a capella - I have to try to brush up on the true Italian meanings seeing that our HQ is in Italy) then in a mix then back to a cappella. I've added bass from the Bass tank, organ from the Vintage Keys, and a drum loop from the Vintage Rock loops for the midsection "mix":

The pad is from Cinematik, layered with some stuff from World music. The hand drum is from World, as is the psaltery. The bowed bass is from Symphony Strings 2. The guitar is my Strat through a non-IK product (sorry). It is just a two-chord ambient sort of thing, and I am no pro, but a lot of people might do this sort of thing with SampleTank.

I'm using a Kit from Acoustic Drums 2 that I edited to be a bit tighter, keys are from the Piano Collection 2 and a little spice from the Cinematic Collection. Just 3 channels used, bass comes from my Roland Fantom G as I haven't got the Bass xpansion (yet).

I tried and succeeded at only picking traditional orchestral sounds only from Cinematik and within a few minutes had a decent combi and multi-out setup to do this small piece. Forgive the crashes in the wrong place and other nits here and there. There's layered strings, brass, and winds with a lame percussion track - all from Cinematik only:skylit wrote:I'd very much appreciate it if somebody could post some samples with more traditional symphonic / orchestral sounds.

Are you being serious? I think can answer the question. Firstly, this is entirely a SR library, so IK will have nothing to say. My guess is exactly as I mentioned previously... each version was saved as a parent because they were worthy starting points and Squids didn't want the preset to be buried as a child when it could stand on it's own. The other reason, is probably that doing this with some of the presets made the collection seem bigger and more well-rounded.androidlove wrote:androidlove wrote:i'm sure someone from ik or sr will come by and tell us what the excess is for
There are some examples where one of the versions of the same instrument is a clean upright and the other version of is a full-fledged honky tonk, created through chorus and detuning of the same samples. It wouldn't be smart to bury the honky tonk as a child of the clean piano when it sounds so great as a honky tonk piano in the modified version. Only YOU can decide if the modified versions of the same instruments are worthy of being their own parents.
But WAIT... you can't decide... because you already deleted them!!!!
Of course, I'm just teasing the Android.
But I think that's the skinny, my friend.
