I had some time to download a few xpansion libraries: Piano and World.
Piano Collection was a little bit disappointing. I loved the tape piano and the gritty rhodes and a steinway piano.
World Instruments was much better. The world string instruments are great. The Bariton Mandoline sounds fantastic. I liked the licks on banjo.

Some piano's had some problems. Particulary the Upright piano had a delay on a few zones on a velocity layer. And the world string instruments had some tuning problems. Especially the Spanish Nylon, a velocity layer on one zone is tuned half a tone too low. The sound of that instrument is great, but this problem makes it impossible to play. Maybe an update could be uploaded.

In about a week the xpansion libraries will be 40 euro's a piece. I wouldn't pay it for the piano collection, but I would pay it for the World instruments (just to have many of the excellent string world instruments).

I really like the moody vibe on this one. Some moments remind me of Death Cab for Cutie's . That's a GOOD thing IMO :hihi:

Hey Xenobt, I believe that the last paragraph of Squids' post earlier today was especially written for you in response to your waiting unnecessarily to redeem your code...

In regards to the piano collection...

I totally agree about the tape piano. In my opinion, just having that piano for the songs that would suit that kind of sound makes the Piano Collection a must-have!

I also love the Baritone Mandolin. It sounds very pleasing.

I wasn't sure if that Spanish Nylon tuning issue was intentional or not. It is not just one sample zone that is detuned, it is a few zones detuned by different amounts. Since it was included in the "World Instruments" collection, I was thinking that it might be trying to imitate a detuned guitar. In any case, you don't have to wait for a fix... you can fix it yourself right now by tuning a couple of the zones and saving a child preset. If you don't tune it perfectly, it will still retain that detuned charm. It is a lovely sample set for sure.

On ST interface, press ZONE > ON (bottom right) and then press the detuned note(s) on your keyboard to select them, and then use the SYNTH > PITCH/FINE knobs to alter the pitch of each zone individually. 8)

There are tuning issues in the Vocal Collection as well- which I fixed in my presets (plug again- here it comes)- for all the Vocal Collection users- check out my revised presets in the KVR Banks & Patches section- just look for SampleTank and you will see them. I brought up levels, added some tube warmth, and fixed tuning issues. If I can do it- anyone can- maybe someone could go and fix those presets mentioned above and post them so everyone can have a great experience.
Plus- it gives you a crash course (gentle though) in deeper editing in Sample Tank.

Perhaps you're right, Zedd.

Since we hit 5000 thursday evening, I hoped that's when the new bonus would be announced, or SURELY by yesterday, but I'll be patient. I find it odd though, that only a few of us have brought it up since thurs. But time, tide and OCD wait for no man! CERTAINLY not this one... Sigh. :hihi:

I'll take Squids last post as gospel that the 7x1 bonus wouldn't be like the last one, a new library added to the list, and make my esoundz choice in the next day or so. Those mp3 demos make it tough though!

I truly AM grateful to everyone who has made this GB and forum such a great experience. I'll shut up for now and try to not to look gift bonuses in the mouth or be Oliver Twist... "Can I have more, sir?"

Thanks so much for posting that Jeremy! I just went a tested all the instruments (I was only missing the one from Vintage Keys). Really great stuff. :-)

The funny thing is I have had all the guitars (except for one) and the bass in my ST collection for several years, but never used those instruments. It is interesting how we can easily overlook certain instruments when they don't have the need for a particular kind of sound in the moment. And then you forgot what you have! I'm usually doing rock and roll music and not looking for tones like that, but you obviously have an ear for those kind of tones which go so well with that African flavoured music. That bass really goes well with those guitar sounds.

Now that you have pointed them out to me I will definitely do some experimenting with them and come up with a few songs of my own in a similar vein. Groovy!

You got me playing some Thomas Mapfumo in the apartment today. Not exactly the same style, but it got me in that African guitar music sort of mood! ;-)

I'm just hoping it wasn't aimed at my question - I asked about the "wild card" 1 gig sound set of unreleased sounds that Squids posted when he started the other thread at the beginning of this group buy.

So far, no one has said they have downloaded it or even knows the name of it. The esoundz web site STILL lists the extra library as one of our selection choices. They updated it to show the future 8x1 at 6000 users, but they didn't remove that Wild Card library from the list.

esoundz web site wrote: When 6000 users join in, the Group Buy increases to 8 FOR 1!
Here are some of the options you will be able to choose 1 of per time you join on esoundz:

• Exclusive 1 gigabyte "Wild Card" bonus library featuring previously unreleased ST sounds from SR and more
• Studio Drums Capsule (adds the ability to have individual kit pieces to make your own custom kits)

R.A.W. (Rex, Apple Loops & Wave) titles for use with Ableton Live, FL Studio, ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Stylus RMX, Reason, Sonar, Digital Performer, Tracktion and any compatible DAW or Sampler:

• Hip Hop Dirty South
• Trip Hop
• Blues Grooves
• Nashville Pop Grooves
• Vintage Rock Grooves
• Vintage Soul Grooves
• 60s Motown Grooves
• Jazz Grooves
• Country Folk Rhythms
• World Grooves

I'd be bummed if it isn't "real" since their web site still lists it as an option. That set would be my top choice from esoundz.

(Again, has anyone selected it? If so, how is it, and what's in it?)

It's definitely NOT referring to the 1 gig set that comes with XT. If anyone's wondering, there's nothing new at all in that set. That one is a miscellaneous scattering of patches from each of SampleTank XL, Sonik Synth, Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleTron, SampleMoog, plus some from a few of the XpansionTank sets we're getting now. That set is 100% repeats, while esoundz says the Wild Card set is previously unreleased.

He probably does mean his "oh wow" announcement (which he said he approved if we hit 7x1 - and we did) won't involve something we have to choose. It would be an add-on that theoretically won't alter our thinking when we decide which sets to download.

But I'll wait anyway, because I want to know what Peter has in mind after we cross 8x1. When we hit 7x1, he encouraged us to go for 8x1 "and beyond".

That "and beyond" part matters.

[EDIT: I just figured out the answer to the question I posted and am looking forward to downloading Squids Tron Exclusive Extras!]

Oh yeah... it *was* aimed at *YOU*. ;-) ;-) ;-) (as well)

No one has downloaded it because it is not one of the choices for download.

I agree with you that this should probably have been made more clear all along, especially since the direction for the bonus seems to have changed part way through.

But Squids has been pretty clear about it now. The Wild Card selection of "previously unreleased ST sounds" is NOT and will not be one of the items that you select as your freebie. If and when it materializes it will be an EXTRA bonus which everyone who joined through eSoundz gets to download.
torgo wrote:It would be an add-on that theoretically won't alter our thinking when we decide which sets to download.
Exactly. So you might as well just grab whichever of the freebie packs is of most interest to you. No further choices will be added to that list. Waiting is unnecessary, unless you are just holding off for the pleasure of having a new library to download on another day.

Sorry if you would rather be hearing this from Squids and not from me... but hopefully he is busy working on whatever he has up his sleeve. :-)

Thanks.

I haven't gone through the sounds of the Vintage Keys set too thoroughly but the LA Rhodes sounds are absolutely great (size = 160 MB).
