V'ger ... totally agree that the 'kids-with-phones' thing is the reason EV goes pop!

The Russian track? .... for me, it's appeal was in that it sounded Russian! ... and I love Russian music :) .... there was an emotional content to it, as well as having a wealth of melody compared to the vast majarity of tracks .... but it also gave me the best laugh of the night when the singer produced a piece of paper, and then referred to it in the song as his lovers photograph just as the camera zoomed in on what looked like a 2 minute pencil sketch done by a 7 year old :hihi: .... even funnier to imagine the scene before they went on stage!

"Ok, my shirt is tucked in, everyone got their plectrums? ... cool! ... drummerboy ... got your sticks? ... both of them? and a spare pair? ... cool! ... guitar boy! stop laughing! this is a serious song! ( smack! ) ... Ok we're good to go ... f**k? where's that f**king photograph? ... shit left it in my jeans before I got my fuckin shiny gig clobber on! ... fuckin hell! ... any of you guys got a fuckin photo? quick! quick! ... a pic of one of your girlfriends!! ... what you fuckin mean you have no girlfriends?? bloody hell, I'll settle for a pic of your fkn mother right now! ... no fkn mum pics? Aaargh ....!! ... ok paper! pencil! who can draw? ... draw me a fkn babe and make it snappy ... we're on in 30 seconds!!! ..... fkn hell that'll have to do .. now I go on stage and sing my fkn heart out about this fkn infantile scribble! .... great!! ...fkn beam me up Scotty!" :hihi:

LOL

Agree on the melody part which is why I liked the Icelandic entry, but the Russian was just comical and the sad part was that it was not intentional.. :(

What baffles me the most that every single year I am SO far away from getting the winner right, but somehow all the people of Europe get it. Weird.

I was actually cringing when the German teen did her thing, that's how bad I thought it was, but I guess the teen girls thought she was cool and the teen boys wanted to do her which turned out to be an unbeatable combination, so next year I will bet on the likable and hot teen with an unpretentious and quirky song.

The good thing is that unlike in pre-internet days, the losing entries dont disappear without trace!
When I get a free minute or two, I'll def go and find that Turkish song again ... I thought it was great, but surprised it did so well! ... Normally, the ones I like end up way down the lower end :) ... so it doesn't matter really.

... Oh and back on topic ... I think it would be fkn excellent if we could have some collab tracks in future OSCs ....I'm well up for collabing with any others as well! :)

Texture has some interesting sounds as does the REZ and Im actually delighted with the simplicity of both of these programs and grateful for what is being given for free or for cheap and how helpful Ugo is in case of a problem loading the banks etc.. as a beginner I found both of these programs to be a help in getting started but ultimately I am frustrated in my attempts to find sounds which are more along the lines of what might be described as a heavenly chorus of angles feathering into infinity. I dont have much use for all these 1950's science fiction sounds and all the weird, harsh and abrasive sounds. Frankly I could not even attempt to make music with Texture and it makes my fl studio crash every time I load more than one preset though I have made some killer psychedelic stuff with Rez. What I am looking for is soft, sweet and beautiful sounds that can be used for ambient music.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Free is all the better but if you know of a fantastic vst synthesizer that has allot of amazingly beautiful sounds that costs some money I want to know about it.

Yes Texture might not be the one your looking to get those type sounds, the best is probably ZynAddSubFX as you don't get better choirs, pads or strings from any freeware synth, although Prana is ok too but use more CPU.

Also have a look at all the H.G. Fortune synths, but Aethereal, Antopya and also Cygnus are good for deep ambient. All free synths.

To get the most ambient sound out of these, but a thick reverb after like Ambient or Epicverb, but also STrev from the Freeverb3 package sounds just as good and runs lighter.

What a bump hehe.

Try these free and cheap ones too:

-Oatmeal.
-CakeWalk Zeta (6 Euros in the Computer Music Magazine)
-U-he Zebralette.
-SQ8L.
-K700.

Have a good day and good luck :)
