Wow. So I guess I'll just have to get past the assumption that without a good audio interface the sound will be bad.

the headphone jack :) it's not perfect, but for smaller simple things it works ok. looptastic is a good example of a well written app that performs well enough. i've had over 20 separate waveforms going with 3 or so effects on and automating.

it's not a notebook computer of course, but it's pretty hip. i like my ipad, especially for music. i came very close to buying a 4 track recorder (i dont have the money for a field recorder) but snapped to my senses when i realized that the microphone isn't the greatest and would be great for capturing ideas but that's about it.

Several of the iPad apps also let you render to wav and then copy the files via itunes.

I guess if I wanted to keep my files private I could get a wireless external HD. I think they sell those. I'm a little leery of the SSD hard drives so early in their development anyway.

Interesting. Has any one had any experience with external mics on iPad like the blue Mikey?

...wasn't it that what was slow with the launchpad was the visual led feedback? I don't think there were basic issues with trigger speed itself, weren't they??

Thats how mine is. Everything starts correctly and the lights change half a second later.

I think there is a programming reference explaining the communication procedure and giving some hints when and why this happens. You can look at this as a bug, a flaw or something of no interest... depending on how you use the visual feedback. I think it's at least not state of the art...

When I remember right the monome controller was far more expensive also it was a kit you had to assemble yourself... and it had no multicolor leds... so what do you mean by "not state of the art prices"?

it's not very expensive, basically.

I wasn't comparing the two.

Gear is less about how it sounds then how it makes us feel. When our geargasm decreases we look for new gear to reclaim our virility. Thank god gear isn't jealous...... we'd all be dead.
