Really? Wow!!

Did you get it through a direct download (without problems) or did you have to have Allen send you a link?

(In other words, is there a chance that it's now one of our options?)

Well, the bad news...

(a) I just cashed in one of my esoundz tickets, and the Squids Rare Instruments Vol 1 Electronic was NOT on the list of choices. Congrats to anyone who got in earlier and somehow managed to get it, but it isn't there anymore for the rest of us.

(b) Since I had to go ahead and complete the process once I started it, I went ahead and selected the Rare Vintage Collection vol 1.

I ran AntiTwin to compare its keyboards to the samples in the Vintage Keys Collection.

Yep - it's a whole bunch of duplicates. RVC vol 1 has 596 meg of samples in its keyboard folder. 400 meg of that is exact duplicates of stuff in Vintage Keys. And one of the other large parent files has the same file size plus a similar name as a file in VK, but there's apparently a difference somewhere between the two files. I'm guessing it's minimal.

So, at least the keyboard part is repeats. Be forewarned - there's very little new material here.

That means the esoundz bonus choices are...

- the RAW or ReTank versions of Groove kits, including a few not available through the IK side of the group buy.

- the 'tron set, which has the stuff from Squids Tron Collection that got left out of SampleTron

- the StudiophonIK bass preview set, which apparently has some very nice bass sounds, all of which will be included in the StudiophonIK package when that gets released.

- the Sonic Reality Bonus Disc for SampleTank 2.5, which doesn't seem like it has enough to it to be all that great (and might be repeats anyway).

- six of the Expansion Tank sets, which are the OLD versions of all of those packages (Omnisynth, Symphony Strings, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Acoustic Drums). Just be ready for a disappointment when you see the differences between those old ones and the new ones that are part of the group buy. (If you really want them, you'd be better off joining the group buy again, using points through IK and getting the new versions.)

Your best option(s) will vary depending on your circumstances. That Tron disc will likely be a good choice for most people. If you have SampleTron but NOT the Squids Tron Collection, it's an easy slam dunk.

Since the vintage collection appears to be a lot of repeats, the next most likely choices are probably the Grooves packs that aren't otherwise in the Group Buy, such as the three Latin ones.

On a brighter note, we've passed the 5550 mark:

5553 users
447 left to 8x1

All for $50!

Remember, if you buy from esoundz you get an extra library... and if you refer someone, there are epointz involved! Then again, if you buy from IK, you get to use JamPointz!

i deleted graduation day, as it is a duplicate acoustic grand. the acoustic grand has mellower tone than the hq free piano. i'm still trying to decide if they are the same piano with different mic positioning or eq or if they are different pianos. the velocity programing is better on the hq fee piano. the acoustic grand doesn't kick in a hard hit until around v127. however, this makes acoustic grand a good choice for soft music, as using the comp velocity on hq fee piano doesn't sound as good to my ears.

about the dyno my road, the last upper sample, which is the last upper zone after c5, has a click at the end of the note making most of the high end unusable. i don't know anything about the instrument, so the following may be normal. there is no machinery noise upwards after c4. upwards of e3, it sounds like a completely different keyboard. i'll be deleting this one

this group buy has taught me a lot about working with samples

has anyone used anti twin to compare ik's bass or vintage packs to ss2? while you're at it could you compare the bass and vintage folders to themselves?

despite having found more duplicates than i expected within packs and between packs and ss2 and sample moog, the group buy has been worth the 25.00 i spent

Thanks, androidlove! I hope Zedd sees your review of those samples too.

Most of my "soft" piano stuff uses the high end, so Dyno My Road would be nearly useless for me. That means the Acoustic Grand / Granduation Day would be the only new parent patch. It's tough to justify using a selection for only one new parent sample.

Do you mean the Vintage Keys set? Yes, I compared that folder to itself. I'm happy to report there are no dupes within the Vintage Keys set at all.

I haven't put it up against Sonik Synth 2 yet. But that's a good idea...

I have gone through a few xpansion libraries. The Vintage Keys was disappointing. In World en Piano I had issues with panning, tuning and delayed sound in some zones. But in Vintage Keys there were clicks, pops and a lot of noise. Too many sounds were unusable because of the clicks and pops. I didn't find the sounds inspiring... Maybe the Frank Zappa one.

Acoustic Drums had some sounds I like... believe it or not... the funky e.drum (I think it's called). Some drumkits had loads of character. Some drumkits had some issues with lfo and decay, but that was fixed in a few seconds.

Bass had a lot of bass and one guitar (Ricky or something). Every bass sound is covered. A decent collection of sounds.

Electric guitar has a few nice sounds. Not spectacular. I like the guitar noises and pops and slides.

Acoustic guitar is great. One of those libraries that's worth 40 euro's. Especially the guitars with a lot of sampled articulations, noises, etc. Recommended!

For anyone who wants to buy the libraries after this groupbuy. Don't ever buy vintage keys for 40 euro!

I just finished running AntiTwin on Sonik Synth 2 vs Vintage Keys. I only checked the parent samples (the .stw files) to keep the running time reasonable.

There were only five dupes, and they are all very small ones - 6 meg total.

The repeats are:

(VK) Ababrasse = (SS) 038 P5 Brass Pad
(VK) GR 300 Clarion = (SS) 044 GR 300 Clarion
(VK) NArpPro BrassFX1 = (SS) 145 BrassLead FX
(VK) TonyPad = (SS) 066 P5 Tonypad
(VK) Zappattack CP80 = (SS) 021 Yam CPGrand

I think I can live with that, as far as the dupes go.

Just joined a second time to get all the libraries...

now I need some more ePointz to get Squids rare instruments ;-)
come on keep 'em coming !!!

thanks, with this and the review above, i think i'll go for the bass if we hit 8x1

there are 36 duplicates between arp and ss2 and none between ob and ss2

i'm using anti twin to clean up the sti and sth files by comparing the antitwined sub directory to the pack by name while accepting different extensions, and then deleting by folder and selecting the pack

more Anti-Twin results (testing parent sample .stw files only)

Electric Guitar Collection 2 = 10 duplicates, 47.5 meg. Some repeats within itself, but not too terrible. Still a whole lot of material there.

Electric Guitar Collection 2 vs Sonik Synth 2 = 5 duplicates, 25 meg. Not bad at all.

Bass Collection 2 = 71 duplicates, 126 MB (out of 628 meg total .stw files)
Yikes... there are as many as TEN copies of the same sample in this one. But that still leaves 502 meg of original parent samples.

Bass Collection 2 vs Sonik Synth 2 = 12 duplicates, 34.3 meg. So the bass set has appx 470 meg of new, unduplicated parent samples.

And the Rare Vintage Collection vs the Electric Guitar Collection 2 and Bass Collection 2 = 100% repeats.

RVC only has one guitar parent and three bass parents, totaling 178 meg of parent samples. All of them are repeats from the Electric Guitar and Bass collections. (Grrrrrr.....)
