First will be the Sam11-bundled version. VST & AU will follow, as soon as testing is through.
[That was the plan until today, when my little daughter fell off a jungle gym and got operated with an arm fracture, I just got back from hospital and don't know about the next days yet.]

Good to hear. Not a SAM user here so I'll have to wait for the VST version. Been waiting (im)patiently for the MIDI functionality.sascha wrote:First will be the Sam11-bundled version. VST & AU will follow, as soon as testing is through.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. My niece just broke her wrist doing gymnastics a couple of days ago. Just in time to miss all her summer activities like piano recitals and gymnastic camps..
Thanks for all your efforts!
PS: Ever chase down the 'artifacts' when changing presets? It was the only other annoying thing on the demo. Just a weird sound when changing presets.
To my ears, vandal is still the most organic sounding amp sim. Well done.

Well, they fixed it with some steel bolts, but those need to stand out of the skin slightly and stay there for some weeks. She got a heavy cast around it, but she's very slim and can hardly lift that thing... we thought she could join Kindergarten again soon, but I doubt she can handle it. So no promises about updates this weekSteviebone wrote:Sorry to hear about your daughter. My niece just broke her wrist doing gymnastics a couple of days ago. You mean the 'pop' sound, right? Yes, that's fixed now. I needed to change a lot under the hood, as the tube models are a bit more complicated than simple waveshapers with asymmetry. As my system is memory-immanent and uses feed-back structures, its 'problem' is the (virtual) anode voltage and bias mismatch, upon startup and module rebuilds (such as with preset/scene changes). It would have been better if the circuits actually had time to 'heat up'... but I guess noone wants thatSteviebone wrote: PS: Ever chase down the 'artifacts' when changing presets? So I was forced to apply some microscopic fade-in at various points, but it's only some msecs and almost inaudible.
But it made me think about preset/scene crossfading/blending, but that calls for more memory and cpu usage during a transition phase. I might consider that for the future but not at the moment, as it's not trivial. I think the current solution is already a huge improvement.

To make a quote from an obscure reference dating my age from Hogans Heroes: "Verrrry Interesting!" lol Looking forward to the release of the new VST version so I can honor your hard work properly with a lil cashola...sascha wrote:You mean the 'pop' sound, right? Sorry to hear about your daughter. If it helps, I started kindergarten with a cast after falling of a small ledge, but it wasn't nearly as bad as how your daughters injury is. (no operation was needed, just a basic cast) I know these days technology is a lot better so I hope there's a lighter weight option available for her.sascha wrote:First will be the Sam11-bundled version. I've got a request. I only had a few hours to play with Vandal and I wasn't impressed, but by the time I got back to it (I was away on vacation at the time) it had expired. I suggest a demo vst version that doesn't totally die after a specific time, but one that starts producing bursts of silence after the time period runs out so it still can be demoed but no useful music can be made with it. Check out Admiral Quality's Poly-ana demo for an example of this.

zc, you're always welcome to stop by and try out Vandal here at my house...but then that would never work, you're a left coaster and once you got a taste of New England we'd never get rid of youzerocrossing wrote:Sorry to hear about your daughter. Sascha, kids are fast healers. One of my nieces broke the same arm 3 times before she was 10 years old! Hope she heals up with no issues.
Meanwhile, latest Vandal fixes lookin' good here (in latest Samplitude 11.1 release).
Thanks Sascha,
Greg

Oh, I'm a transplant (NY/NJ) and I already suspect that New England might be a better place for me. I just can't seem to figure out these Californians.Hink wrote:

Sascha...Man those Cabs are absolutely Superb. I had to get a new development system to so I downloaded the demo again...(Sorry, poor developer here living on freaking stew). Anyways, I got to test a bit more and work with it...Really really nice job. You have definately kicked ass with them...

You probably never touched a real amp in your life mate, otherwise you would not say such thing, Or maybe I have lost my ear's power and sensitivity ! but anyway I'm enjoying Vandal and then all the other amp sims as well, and though Vandal's sound is best to my ears now, but I can not say that all the other amp sims out there sounds bad. BTW, just out of curiosity, have you ever miced a real amp??, perhaps a high gain amp before ? well I'm using 'em the real miced amps almost everyday beside all my amp sims, and guess what, while getting some specific tones and sounds are somehow impossible or at least very difficult with amp sims, but sometime I also feel the opposite that some sounds I can get from amp sims are even better than the real deal, moreover, no one should forget the amp sims ease of use, flexibility and great tone palette as well. Anyway as I said before tastes are different, but coming here and suddenly blow the trumpet that all amp sims sounds BAD ! is not logical, not even funny! . At last you could bring your reasons, the kind of sound you are after and probably could not get yet, and so on.. By the way, though some amp sims are great and in a recorded track almost no one can recognize which is which, but Amp sims are not there to replace the real amps, they are there to help us play with tones to get new result and probably influence us sometime to be more creative..
Cheers

I;ve been playing electric guitars since the 60's - only the last few years have been using computers and amp sims. They're great! Wish I would have had all this technology years ago. I have 6 real amps sitting here but haven't turned one on in months (really). I use backing tracks a lot and coupled with a sim and the right impulses it's like playing live. When I strap on my Headphones and get started it's every bit as fun and PHAT as a real amp.
Now the proud owner of an avid 11 Rack, Running Pro Tools 10.3.3 - for me it's heaven!

sorry, I do not want to generate a flame war, but let's be honest, I have tried these ampsim, and none has convinced me...
To play guitar in my spare time is ok, but not for production. sorry, will stop here to not create a flame war.
