Squids wrote:I will say that the idea of loyal new customers buying new upcoming sounds from Sonic Reality, especially from www.esoundz.com is what makes something like this work in the big picture. I always believe you have to give to get. This one was extremely generous and obviously I was the one who had to approve it all since it is Sonic Reality sounds. I thought it'd be a good way to stir things up again in SampleTank-land and that proved to be correct!

Safe to say we all have renewed interest in SampleTank thanks to this group buy. You definitely did stir things up.

If a steady stream of new titles continues through the pipeline, it could indeed work out very well in the long run. For example, titles from other lines (eg - loops packages from well known drummers) might now be worth porting to SampleTank format.

Peter/Squids, is there any way we can edit the keyrange of a parent- or better yet- going forward- make sure all parents have a full 88 key range mapped. I am having issues with the 70's Bright Aahs where there is only 4 octaves that I can use- YET- I can transpose the set up and down to get more useable ranges- but am hand-tied to the 4 octaves you put on that parent. I was going to do some more fixin'- but this is not fixable. Also, the parent is not in the proper key- its a whole tone lower!!!!!
(update)- It turns out that SampleTank will transpose all samples (not just beats) if you have Sync on- I didn't know that (seems odd but I guess they didn't put the logic in for parent sounds to be syncable or not). So check and make sure that Sync is not on if you have tunning issues.

In the SS2 interface, there is a Pref. button. You want to point it to the SS2 instruments folder which should be inside your maing Instruments folder.

My folder structure:

Main folder: Instruments

Instruments/Sampletank 2.5L
Instruments/Samplemoog
Instruments/(insert expansion tank title here)
Instruments/Sonik Synth 2 <---In the SS2 prefs, point it to this folder.

Hopefully, that helps a bit.

As for suggestions for packs, I suggest the Symphony Strings 2 pack since you don't have Miroslav. Lots of good stuff there.

I have Miroslav and I still like the Symphony Strings. They are more like the strings in a Roland instrument... at least that's the way I relate to them.

Agreed. I don't think there is a way for the end user to do this at the moment, but I really hope that ST3 will allow us to edit instruments to extend the keyboard range.

I am having this issue with some of the ethnic instruments. I really love some of the SR exotic strings, but the limits of some of those instruments on both the top and the bottom end can be a bit of a frustration.

Taking notes Peter? And Squids? I think I prefer the instrument model where all instruments extend up and down the keyboard and it remains up to the end user to determine what areas sound out of range.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did have mine set up similar to yours but it was all on my C: drive and I really needed the space freed up. Hence me moving everything to the E: drive. Regarding the Sonik Synth screw up I have, I can't even get the app to open at all. It just opens up a little window in Cubase that looks like a mini VST Instruments window and buzzes like hell. I may just reinstall it. SampleTank 2XL was doing this too until I installed XT. Then all my folders came back. I'm just missing the SS2 GUI. Thanks for the tip.

I may give Symphony Strings 2 a try. I also own Spectrasonics Omnisphere so I'm fairly covered with the vocals (Symphony of Voices), Guitars (Hans Zimmer stuff) and a good representation of strings. Actually I have been looking at getting a "set" such as Miroslav or GPO so I could do a orchestra mock up if I needed to.

Hi Peter,

So in checking further.

There's an update mentioned many pages back called, "ST_Child_Preset_Update.zip"
It included child presets for
Cinematik Collection
Hip Hop Instruments
World Instruments

For example child presets were included in the Cinematik_Collection_new.zip, that were not in the original download. For Cinematik there are 147 included child presets in the _new.zip

I don't mean to start a big to-do, but to some, these extra presets have some value. And to have them in one easy install is also of value.

So how does one know when a sample lib is updated, Were the above 3 the only ones updated? Otherwise how do you get it past the download window?

And how about better names than _new - something with some version or date on it?
:D

Cool. I think I am going to select Symphony Strings instead of Omnisynth 2 or Piano Collection 2. Sounds like it may have more things I could use than the others.

Don't miss the Cinematik Collection. There is some good orchestral stuff in there, as well.

That's not what I was told today, I will ask again with this information. Perhaps Squids knows better, but I was told by people here that there was to be only updated installers and that the files were supposed to be replaced (since you'd only need them if you had a particular problem with the installer).

The U.S. east coast just hit midnight, and we're still 60+ users shy of the 6000 mark. Oh well... We're still an obvious slam dunk to reach it though, with several days remaining.

I'm on the fence about joining in again. How many others here are in that same category? Am I the only one?

I just joined again, minutes ago. Well worth it. Epointz to ReverendRhythm for all of his hard work on this....

It definitely was well worth it the first, second, and third times I joined.

But since I already owned discs of several ExpansionTank titles, a fourth time isn't so obvious.

All the same, I'm thinking about it. Anyone else in that same boat?

Friendly bump to next page.
