do that, saw off what you dont need, then drill holes in the rest (all the way thru if you can[ie if its stable] and small hollows if you cant)

It isnt the lightest guitar in the world, and it has non-standard tone controls, but I think you may actually like it.

thats probably not a bad suggestion

like i said, im not trying to replace the sg tonally, the amount of post processing i have in mind initial sound isnt so much of an importance here. it really is the lightweight factor im interested in.(medical reasons )

you could ask IanB about that Skylark Curvycaster he bought, probably very light... They have a few skeleton style guitars too which must weigh next to nothing.

I have one of those SG faded specials and it is very light. The faded look probably isn't to everyone's liking, but I think the brown ones look OK - kind of vintage....and man, extremely resonant!! Makes me wonder whether or not guitars should have any kind of finish at all on them. Seriously.

The lightest guitars I've ever held are from Jay Turser, I have a Tele copy and it's as light as a feather. I think they're made from poplar, so that must be very light wood.

You want a Danelectro guitar

They are made from a plywood frame covered in masonite (it's a type of hardboard before you ask) so they are hollow and light. Perfect for the guitarist with a weak back

Definately try the Danelectro then, they are the lightest guitar/basses I have ever used. Plus they are pretty cheap and sound good for their price
