I'm still in need of an instrument preset list for the product Squids Rare Instruments, Vol. 1 Electronic.

From the description below I strongly believe that I already have this:

I was in the "Squids Rare Instruments" group buy a while back, so I'm assuming the stuff I have downloaded as "Rare Inst v1 Electronic" is the same as what is in that product from esoundz.

If so, then: the audio demos are wrong on that page. The text description is correct. Here's a complete patch list from my hard drive, that is, all the .stw (parent) and .stip (child) files. Looking at the patch lists for the Xpansion Tanks on ikmultimedia.com, I don't immediately see any overlap...

Thank you kindly, Ceej. :-) This is what I thought, and I'm glad to know that I'm not going crazy. I was also in the Squids Rare instruments GB so I do have all the instruments that you listed and assumed that I have this Squids Rare Instruments, Vol. 1 Electronic collection.

So the names of those audio demos, at least, are wrong. Or it is maybe referring to another library altogether.

The big giveaway for me was the Piano like demo. I liked what I heard, and didn't readily recognize it, so I did a search and couldn't find the preset. And then I couldn't find the other presets either.

So Squids... please explain what these actually are:

EDIT >>> I have solved part of the mystery... I had this underlying feeling that I *HAD* heard that piano before in my collection, and it finally dawned on me that it was the SampleTron > Vintage Effects > Instruments with FX > Pianolike preset. None of the chidren in SampleTron piano had the exact sound of the piano in the audio demo, even though I knew it was the same. But after doing some EQ, adding both Ambience and Reverb FX I got a child preset that sounds almost identical.

So at least 2 of those audio demos are from SampleTron. I assume that some of the rest may be from SampleTron as well.

I was just giving a quick answer, by memory. I should have looked closer. So.. yes, the additional content adds value. More loops = more variety = more choices

But it brings up a question of how you want to use the loops. If you are going to incorporate the loop into a piece of music and use the loop essentially "as is," then the RAW version is for you. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion, with the ST versions it is more easy to change the loop using MIDI and effects. The ST versions are a little more time consuming to use, but they open up possibilities for me. I can get more variety out of the ST (ReTank) loops. I can leave out a beat or change the groove, or make it more lo fi. All in ST ( and the MIDI file).

So for me, RAW loops are for quick work, and ST (ReTank) loops are for "messing with."

But my philosophy concerning loops is a little different from some people. For me, they are an additional tool. I'd rather use a shaker loop, than record one. But I'm usually working as fast as I can. In fact, I left Mac many years ago, so I could use what was Sonic Foundry Acid. I left so I could use loops... and I'm a player! It made for some creative work-a-rounds until Acid became more of a DAW.

Some people - and they are usually vocal about their opinions - think that loops are unimaginative and a lazy way of working. And I see their point... but I don't agree.

They are and you don't have it unless you were in the old Rare & Vintage Group Buy. These were not used in anything else.

As for the repeats, yeah to make the 30 NEW titles through IK we had to pool from various sources of past group buys and such. Some things like Rare Instruments Electronic and Acoustic, Studiophonik etc. were not pooled from at ALL. Some things like the Rare Vintage main set were and of course the Capsules and Original Expansion Tanks and original 15 RAW titles were. Ideally we would have had an elaborate chart made. But really the exclusive esoundz extras were an improvised "give them a choice" move from what we HAVE... and what we have is a combination of old and new but NOT the actual 30 titles... and we didn't want to compete directly with IK on those. So a bit tricky but you guys are figuring out what's what and really it isn't THAT hard... usually there is some indication like Symphony Strings 2 vs. the original Symphony Strings. We're going to post sound lists for as much as possible today though.

Thanks again, Reverend! The point is that I would take the R.A.W. as the bonus instead of the Xpansion Version (as one of the eight choices) in order to be able to grab another Multisample Tank. But as I like the demo of the Xpansion, I want to make sure that those loops are within the R.A.W. Version, too. As I own Stylus RMX, I can also modify REX-Loops in an easy and creative way. ;)

These are the products I was asking for:
