Are there any Evolution Guitar MIDI demos out there, which show how the various demos were produced? I personally find it easier to learn, if there's something to investigate
thx

I'll see what I can do in terms of rounding up some demo MIDI files. I think the video tutorials will be more useful, though, since they'll basically show how to create guitar tracks from scratch.

Although it's not really a tutorial, this video might give you a few ideas in terms of playability. The patches used are listed in the video, too:

OK - that's no the kind of 'tutorial' I meant
I was thinking along the lines of i.e. a MIDI-file and maybe a screencast showing the setup (keyswitches, controllers, etc...) in the software.
This would tremendously help getting something nice out of the pack.

That's exactly what I have in mind--a screencast type of video showing how to create guitar tracks from scratch.tiptronic wrote: I was thinking along the lines of i.e. a MIDI-file and maybe a screencast showing the setup (keyswitches, controllers, etc...) in the software.

I usually start out from one of the existing presets and then modify it as needed--for example, if I need squeals on a patch that doesn't have them, I'll figure out where I want them mapping--on a keyswitch, controller, or velocity, etc.

Hehe... I guess my problem already starts a little earlier - I never used Kontakt, so it is not really obvious, what's meant i.e. by 'interface view', 'layer', etc... in Evolution's user guide. So any basic starter documentation would be much appreciated.

Ahhh--sure! I'll keep that in mind when I'm making the screencasts, so you can see me actually starting the project from scratch--not simply loading up a template.tiptronic wrote:Hehe... Maybe you can give me a quick hint, how I can get the thing running?
- In the meantime I found out how to play chords and some rhythm-patterns, but I can't get some nice tones out of the Lead-patches. I was under the impression, that I can load the patches into Kontakt and start playing (but that seems to be wrong). What I get is a variation of over-sustained or muted tones.
Sorry, if this questions sound dumb, but I'm lost, as I don't know where to start and what is needed to play
What are the *required* steps to play a solo here?
And: After a while Kontakt Player stops working and says: 'Demo mode' and shows an 'Activate' button. But what can I activate?
Any hint - or better: step-by-step instruction appreciated.

Try the "shredding lead" patch--that's one of my favorites. Each patch has a different articulation mapping ideal for different styles of music.tiptronic wrote:Maybe you can give me a quick hint, how I can get the thing running?

You should also use an amp sim or guitar effects. There are some nice free ones out there such as FreeAmp 3, and anything by AcmeBarGig: http://www.acmebargig.com
The Kontakt Player is only able to play 3rd party libraries (so libraries which do not come bundled with the player) for around 15 minutes at a time. You need the full retail version of KONTAKT 2, 3, or 4 in order to use Orange Tree Samples products without the time limit.tiptronic wrote:And: After a while Kontakt Player stops working and says: 'Demo mode' and shows an 'Activate' button. The crossgrade price from the Kontakt Player to the full version of Kontakt is currently 50% off, so it's a great deal.
However, if you're not interested in buying Kontakt, please PM me or email me so we can work something out.

I posted a fairly cheap way to get the full version of Kontakt. If you already have a 3rd party library that is authorized to use the Kontakt Player (ie, does not time out) then you qualify for the crossgrade price for Kontakt (which is $139.50 USD). See here for details:
http://www.native-instruments.com/index ... directed=1
If you don't have a Kontakt Player library, you can purchase Infinite Player from eSoundz (Sonic Reality) for $50 here:
http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=2459
It has been confirmed in other threads that it qualifies for the crossgrade (plus you get a free 300MB C7 grand piano sampleset with the Infinite Player).
So you can end up getting the full version of Kontakt 4 for $189.50! A great deal!

Oh, I'm sorry for the confusion, I guess I didn't explain myself clearly--I was talking about the original poster, since he purchased a copy of Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry without realizing that it requires the full version of KONTAKT to run without time restriction.Musical Gym wrote: Hi, Greg. It looks like it will be a long while before I can purchase Kontakt even with the special going on, so I'd be interested in any other workable solutions/suggestions regarding working something out. I'm unclear as to what that could be.
You're on the beta testing team, so the final release copy is yours to keep.

Hi Greg,
I am going for the esoundz-option (always better to have the 'full thing™' anyway
).
So one part of the problem is solved (as soon as I got the plugin and I am able to activate it - and then purchase Kontakt...).
Btw: Terry, I put tman2k into esoundz referral field, so you are prepared to start a business over there
So thanks everybody for their help so far - now I just need to find out how to play.
Greg: I didn't know you need a separate guitar engine to play (that's why I said in the beginning of this thread, a screencast from step 0 would be great). It's no problem, since I own GuitarRig, Amplitube, etc..., but I am still unclear how to add these to the Kontakt 4 player. I couldn't find any option to do so. Maybe I'll try with MainStage - or how do you guys check out new stuff without loading your full Logic or Digital Performer?
BTW: I like the responsiveness of this forum pretty much - so thanks again.
Cheers
andy

The guitar is sampled straight from the output of the guitar, so it's very versatile--you can apply any kind of effects on it to achieve a lot of different tones. Like I said, there are many excellent free guitar effects out there, too.tiptronic wrote: Greg: I didn't know you need a separate guitar engine to play (that's why I said in the beginning of this thread, a screencast from step 0 would be great). I'll be sure to start from step 0 in the screencast tutorials so you can get a good idea of how to approach writing guitar tracks for your compositions.
