I have to say that until a few days ago I avoided Synth1. I have no idea why. It totally has that raw, dry sound that I like. In fact, I stumbled upon it only after having been impressed with the sound of the original Nord lead and finding a thread where someone (Brok?) mentioned that he felt that Synth1 sounded more like the Nord than Discovery.
Long story to basically say, "thanks for this." Now I've got Synth1 and Discovery Pro happily in the same VST folder. I hope they don't fight. Cost a lot less than a used Nord Lead, that's for sure.

I have missed out on Synth1 for a long time and mainly due to the patch/preset access having to set registry paths etc was a headache. However, the latest update has solved that issue. Must say i am loving this 'david & goliath' synth and it's free - fantastic 'THANK YOU'
Only niggle (and it's minor) is using in jBridge with Cubase5x64 when adjusting the parameters, accessing the sliders, the sliders pop up as an additional gui and freezes the sounds. But that is not a complaint just a niggle, can be worked around adjusting parameters in a midi control lane.
Again thank you and Kudos.

Hm, I don't know if I'm missing something but I followed the instructions and ran that initialization script but all I can see is a bunch of what seem like general midi style presets. Even when I go into info and browse to the other preset folders directly I see nothing. I did make a kick ass bass patch of my own though.MFXxx wrote:I have missed out on Synth1 for a long time and mainly due to the patch/preset access having to set registry paths etc was a headache. Click the opt button, a window opens with the default bank location, and 99 otherszerocrossing wrote: Hm, I don't know if I'm missing something but I followed the instructions and ran that initialization script but all I can see is a bunch of what seem like general midi style presets. in a list, double click on any of these and browse to where you have some synth1 soundsets. If you put a folder with all the synth1 soundsets where the browser opens, you'll save some time filling the 100 banks. Once you have some sets selected, clicking
in the bottom row of the main synth1 screen opens both the preset list of the current bank, and on the left, the list of banks 100 to choose from. Its easy to make a favourites bank since they are just textfiles.

Got it. Thanks. I guess what confused me was the .zip file and the fact that there's a bunch of banks that are just empty. So I filled those with some I found here. Nice. I can go up to 100banks? Heh. That's a LOT.glokraw wrote:Click the opt button, a window opens with the default bank location, and 99 otherszerocrossing wrote: Hm, I don't know if I'm missing something but I followed the instructions and ran that initialization script but all I can see is a bunch of what seem like general midi style presets. As an aside, I can do Synth1 1/8 notes at 120 BPM pretty consistantly on my guitarszerocrossing wrote:Got it. Thanks. using fretkeys 1.34 Took me a bit to find a range of fretkeys settings, but its usable.

I'd love to control Synth1 with a guitar! But I was wondering is there any special reason you have been using v1.34 of FretKeys instead of the latest 1.40 version? Thanks!glokraw wrote:As an aside, I can do Synth1 1/8 notes at 120 BPM pretty consistantly on my guitars using fretkeys 1.34 Took me a bit to find a range of fretkeys settings, but its usable. and the computer is not a screamer. Well, my teachers always hinted that I was 'special', but in this case,SciFiArtMan wrote:I'd love to control Synth1 with a guitar! ignorance rules. I did PM the dev a few weeks back, but have not received
a response. I hope he is alive and well!
Someone has a boxnet link for it now here:

I was wondering because I have a faint memory of reading in the old FretKeys' thread that maybe the pre-pitchbend versions tracked a little better than the newer ones. And as I would likely use the set-up mostly for bass parts (but who knows!), the pitch bend effect might not make much difference. Been meaning to check FretKeys out for quite awhile - now may be a good time! Thanks for the reminder!

I've just completed a full bank of sounds for Synth1 if anyone's interested:
Mr Wobble's Synth1 Patches
It's a bit of smörgåsbord/dog's-dinner (delete as appropriate).
Important: It requires the latest version of Synth1 (v1.12) to load properly - many patches will sound quite different in 1.9.
