this is one of the longest installations i've ever gone through with a peice of audiosoftware..

first the full length dance song.. now im having to sit around and wait for the installation to find my VST plugins folder..

naturally there is no automatic way to do this in the install.. boo.. hope it at least sounds good :P :D

okay.. had time to play with klangformer..

as far as it being a beta (and it does have some already-documented bugs) its not bad at all.. it has a good sound and a nice range of modulation and effects built in.

if they released the version 1.5 or 2 to the public.. I know it would be a top rated synth.. I had 3 parts running at the same time.. a lead a bass and a 'pad' (the beta they release is only legato monophonic so not too much pad action going on) and the cpu meter was hovering around the 12% mark.. really nice. :D~

one thing I'd like to point out is its 8 parts multitimbral.. so you orionauts who want to try it realize its going to take up 8 mixer channels on screen :o

fun to play with... and the first !j synth that (imo) doesnt sound really thin.

OTOH I dont understand why they need so much positive feedback (read: butt-kissing) to continue with a project though. Either you want to do the project or you dont.. at least thats what I always thought. Perhaps I misread their page and thus the meaning.. :?

OK, let's imagine you make a synth plugin. It has no GUI to speak of and it is a bit fiddly to use, but you built it purely to get a job done, so it works as needed for you. After a while you notice people asking for something similar to your project and you get to thinking "if I stuck a GUI on this and fixed the bugs it might be useful to other people." Well the problem is at this point you are no longer doing the project for yourself, you are doing it entirely for other people. It works fine for your needs after all. Anyway, you do it, you spend time writing a user guide so others can use it, you upload it to your website, and... basically your bandwidth gets flooerd for a few weeks, you probably need to fork out for better web hosting, a bunch of people mail you to tell you they can't get it working, and then silence. Nothing. No comments, feedback, suggestions, thanks, just an increased monthly cost on your web hosting.

It isn't about the applause, they are complaining that people download and then walk away. If I hold a door open for someone, I don't do it for the gratitude, I do it because it seems decent. If they walk by without acknowledging I'd feel that inconsiderate and thus be less inclined to do it again.

I released a few plugs for teh Tracktion community. Many people gave me thanks, which is nice. A whole bunch of people gave me feedback, which is much appreciated. A few even created presets which they sent me for inclusion with the plug. Those people really keep me wanting to finish my other projects. I'm deeply greateful to those people, 'cos otherwise I'd just be making plugs that service my own needs. It's much easier after all.

Presumably nobody's using Klangformer because it wasnt so long since !j went all "this is only available to our mates, right!" and thus nobody knows they decided to let the masses play with their toys again...

I installed Klangformer a while ago and think it is even in its beta state an amazing synth. The - blindly imported- 1024 virus presets dont work in every case, but many are good or a very good base for own creations, the sound is really good and unique and there are many modulation options which makes this nearly a modular synth.
Apart from it being monophonic, this rivals in possibility synths like Pentagon or Detal III and heads together with cyrstal the list of the "unbelieveable that they are free " - Synth List.
Please check this out and say thanks to the developers - I did, and they were very friendly but somewhat bitter about past reviews and actions here (which i know nothing of).

I don't understand some things here.

Could it be, that you don't read the texts right?

The theme is about the waveguide project and the new development toolkit for BCB.
This project is announced and terminated at end february. They look for GUI developers to release the project as open source.

A free synthesizer project as open source!

They say nothing about a klangformer, or ninja or the other synthesizers in this special context.

I think, this all has nothing to do with the klangformer synthesizer. The old beta download is simply an extra ("created end 2002") and a replacement for the removed synthesizers, I think.

I would be very happy to see a waveguide synthesizer with a plenty of different models and a visual VST toolkit for Borland compilers, unfortunately I have no skills in GUI design.

Where are all the GUI painters? Some time before there seemed to be many of them, asking for work.

But now?

This could become the most intresting VST development kit out there.
Even a Borland CBuilder Standard compiler isn't so much money. Some lower versions are just 29 $ or so !

Hell yeah! This looks v. interesting. I was looking at STK to produce some kind of brass modelling in a VSTi but looks like Jason has an, um, significant head start. Also, I'd rather the library was not so IDE specific... Now VSTGui is open source, it seems a shame to use a port of VSTGui dedicated to one platform.

Shame I'm not really advanced with graphics. Prophet where are you? :)

I think, the "Borlanders" are basically cross platform.

So this would possibly become a cross platform development kit?!

Porting seems to be easy, because its all coded in C++, rather than Object Pascal. C++ should be understood/implemented by all possible platforms with maximum compatibility ...

Even with the STK components they say, that the original source code was not changed, only encapsulated into "instantly usable" visual components and "drag'n drop" synthesizer engines.

The intresting of all this is the base framework for VST and GUI development, which seems to be widely extendable by the community.

The STK components are the example DSP package for the base Toolkit.

I really hope that they release this synth soon!

It sounds AMAZING! :-o

This is the longest software installation I can remember. It's searching for files now. I figure I can read all of the new messages here, have breakfast, have a nap, watch 30 mins of TV, and then check this beta out. Dang, it finished. I only had time to read all new messages here and write this. Since this is a free beta, what the hell am I complaining about?
