Found this to be intriuging, claims to improve HDD performance. Tried on my system and it seems to have worked a little. YMMV :

I timed before and after. It used to take 52 secs to boot Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop, now it takes 26. Pretty good result.

I ran it and all went well until restart. It booted bios but instead of getting the windows booting bar i got a blank screen with just an unusable cursor. I can't get in safe mode as well. So I pulled the drive and hookd up to another PC and looked inside and I don't see any corruption or any thing that looks wrong or missing. So I suspect it's either my MBR or the video driver.

Oops, it can move all the data on a drive so if anything is up - game over. It said my laptop and netbook were already ok but both desktops benefitted.

I wouldn't recommend trying this app if your on Windows Xp.

I wouldn't recommend trying this app if your on Windows Xp.

? The article relates to new larger capacity drives and the 4k advanced format
needed to access them, and how winxp access those larger drives, not disk alignment...

It is not about seperate "disks", but "partitions" on a disk. Regardless, Win XP can not access 4K sectors without a workaround.

There's been quite a lot of "death of Windows Xp" buzz about this, actually.

It's not about partition alignment (as that term is meant in the context of this forum thread), and has nothing to do with this conversation.
I suggest you look into it a bit more and understand the issue properly so you don't end up spreading inaccurate information.
It's not limited to Winxp, but others as well.

Sooo, you recommend people with Windows Xp download this "tool" and run it to "optimize" their main HD, regardless of make/model/format/sector configuration???

N.P.

Granted, I am assuming that the "utility" being offered is not just some 'generic' promo throw-away (which it may well be), but is something which addresses the issues discussed in the "white-paper" itself, as pertains to 4K drives.

If not, then my bad. I've no desire to get on yet another "mailing-(spam)-list"

I would still ~ use it with caution.

Well I ran it and it worked wonders. I was getting lots of "black screen" boot ups with the process hanging part way. Now it's booting everytime. I seem to remember something abour partitions needing to be in an optimal position on the HD to boot successfully and was wondering if that was causing my problems.

I've made no recommendations- merely stated that the 4k sector drive issue is not relevant to the discussion, which it isn't. I'm undecided on the nature of the app above as I haven't tried it.
