Here's a tutorial video on how to use the layer-based mapping system in Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry's lead guitar component:

My pleasure--many more videos to come, too!

thanks, but why isn't this fully explained in the manual?
  • are layers allowed to overlap?
  • if so, what happens when parameters settings are conflicting?
or do we have to find out by the old trial and error method?

please, Greg, remember that some of us are not native English speaker, and that [illustrated] written material is sometimes easier to grasp than speech in a movie...

...especially since it's so much easier to rewind!

In case layers overlap on a certain enabled parameter, it prefers the highest numbered layer.

okay; so: no interpolation, no crossfading, ever?

No, it will select one layer or the other based on their order. Think about it as if it's a Z order, maybe that comparison will help.

Remember, that only applies to parameters that are enabled. For example, even if a note event meets all the conditions, but a certain parameter isn't enabled to be affected by that layer, it will keep searching down the list of layers until it finds a layer that both meets the note event's conditions, as well as having an enabled value to be affected for that parameter.

hmm, yes: breadth-first traversal - makes sense!

There was a detailed explanation of how the layer system works in the old Strawberry manual--I'll have to copy it into Evolution Electric Guitar's user guide also. You might also check out the tutorial videos for Mind Control, since that uses the same layer-based mapping system:

Good screencast tutorial, NIKH!
