Evolution guitar chords

I'm actually thinking of buying Evolution, even though Kontakt mockup arrangements I make for my group are currently acoustic instruments exclusively. Obviously, I'm looking forward to the acoustic guitar version of Evolution.

Anyway, to my question. Just how extensive are the available chord types ? Is a minor sixth (m7b5) available, or a 7b9, sus4 (sus2), or outlandish entities like 7susb5b9b13, etc. Obviously, for some complex chords it simply isn't possible to voice all the notes on six strings. How do you overcome that ?

And what about unusual voicings of common chords ? For example on the guitar it is possible to produce some minor ninth voicings where the ninth and third are adjacent.

Sorry about the meandering question, I'm just trying to get a feel for how you've solved these problems.

In Evolution you can edit any chord in the virtual fretboard editor.
Simply pick one chord that you are not using and change the fret position for each string.

So, are you saying you have an unlimited/limited number of user-defined (and presumably user-namable) chord "slots" in which you can devise your own voicings ? Can this chord voicing "library" be saved and loaded separately from other settings ?

Sorry if this all sounds a bit rambling - I am trying to understand whether I can use the Evolution strumming system for jazz accompaniment for example.

Jazz and Fusion music are not the only styles using complex harmony of course, even some folk music styles have now adopted 20th century harmonic ideas.

I wish Kontakt would let you import/export settings, but because it can't, unfortunately the chord definitions are limited to each patch.

So... you can or can't define your own chord forms and save as? For that particular instrument save.

I am trying to see if I can use this rhythm guitar for my not-normal music. My recipes are from scratch a lot.

Hi jancivil, yes the reply was a bit vague. I've tried to phrase it in a different way and posted it under the "Strumming Video" thread. I understand the bit about not being able to save/load chord definitions except within the instrument itself - fair enough, that's a shortcoming of Kontakt. It's the definition of chord types themselves that I don't understand.

Yeah, you can save your own patches with chord definitions--just remember that it comes with the strumming patterns in the patch, too.

Ok, it becomes more clear. I'm imagining the kontakt interface makes saving 'components' (such as just a chord or strum as a preset) inside a 'patch' somewhat problematic to design.


So this idea I had of building particular players is simply within the purview of a patch, which includes what's in that sequencer thing.
