Hello Rhino users,

I've just received my copy of Computer Music, and I'm dead keen to try out RhinoCM featured on the DVD.

However, I'm running into a showstopper. RhinoCM installed OK, and I copied the DLL to my Cubase plugins folder.

Cubase recognised and loaded the plugin OK (I can see the UI) - but, RhinoCM does not appear as an option for assigning as an 'output' for a MIDI track. My other soft synths appear just fine.

Curously, RhinoCM does appear as an available MIDI *input*.

Anybody got any ideas?

TIA,

David

I don't have CubaseSX so it's hard for me to test this.

The only thing I can think of is that RhinoCM (as well as Rhino, actually) don't declare

Code: Select all

wantEvents
() because Steinberg deprecated this method in vst2.4. I would be surprised that they rely on it, though... Have you tried asking on Steinberg forums ?

ok - just looking around, I think the problem might be because Rhino doesn't declare the number of midi channels he deals with. Cubase must be the only host who checks this (probably because it's so poorly documented in the vst spec).

I'll whip up a patch and send it to you for testing, ok ?

Hello, I'm experiencing the same problem - any chance I could get a copy of the patch also when it's ready?

In the meantime, it's working fine wrapped in EnergyXT, and sounds great!

How will the rest of us Cubase users get the fix?
My music is a fusion of jazz and funk. It's called "Junk"

I'll put it online on my web site, and I'll send the fixed version to CM so that the future mags have the corrected version.

'Tick,

Many thanks for coming back so quickly! I'll be happy to test any patch you come up with.

I've never had any problems using Rhino in Cubase (from Cubase VST/32 5, and all the way up to Cubase 5.1)
So it seems that it must be something with this Rhino-CM vesion.

Best regards

Yes, I think it's because I changed the version of the sdk - in 2.4 wantEvents() is deprecated, but they don't say anywhere that you must specify the number of midi input channels.

Actually small issue thought I'd mention, playing with this last night in FLStudio 9, noticed the Gui randomly flashes when using the "Bank" window, just clicking around on presets etc, anyone else confirm this?

Edit, actually its not random its when the preset changing updates.
Edit again, nope still random flashes after changing windows etc.

David, I just sent you the fix for you to try. Just let me know :)

'Tick, I looked on your site but couldn't find the update. Am I too soon or just lost? :)

No problems in Cubase Studio 5.1.1, works fine.
