Three oscillators as opposed to six in the full version.

and the possibility to use your own samples as oscillators.... and hundreds of additional waveforms, more effects, more filter types.... and dx7/tx81 sysex import...

Please help answer how well will the CM version handle the tutorial examples in Simon Cann's book, "How to Make a Noise" ?

As I don't have the book, I can't tell. The book was written when Rhino was in v2.01 or so, and many more features were added since, which are thus not covered in the book. Many of these features are also in RhinoCM.

I'm sure Simon will be able to answer your question, though.

Now you do, as it is a free download from Simon's site [ just tested the download link out and got the pdf instantly :) ]

The meaty Rhino "FM" examples appear in Chapter 7 :)

Note: I also emailed Mr Simon :)

Let's see what Simon says ( :) ) but it seems to me that many of his examples use up to 6 oscillators.

Tick is right. The book was written with an earlier incarnation of Rhino.

I haven't checked out Rhino CM, but if it's got three operators, against Rhino's six, then there will certainly be gaps, so I think the safe answer to your question (will the CM version handle the tutorial examples in "How to Make a Noise"?) is not at all.

Cheers
