I also agree with the devs perspective in general, but from a users point of view the preset handling became a big pain and simply sucks. Too many formats, too many different preset managers. All those host internal preset/patch manager are totally useless, when you can't easily browse through the presets of any plugin. On top of that the new VST3 format e.g. doesn't even support program changes anymore, so we are basically forced to use one instance of a plugin per preset. What a waste of resources

I'm using virtual instruments and FX only and I probably have 50+ VSTs, but I hardly know 10% of the thousands of presets they come with. Too bad you can't organize them all together in ONE SINGLE preset manager.

Not sure what kind of tool BigTick is working on, but if it can solve some of the issues pointed out in this thread it would be great.

As a user I really hate proprietary formats

. With new plugins I have to learn it and test if it's reliable. I have lost lots of presets because some odd errors, and now I also back up good presets with fxp.
I wish there's a single 'reliably backup everything to this folder' button with every plugin (or host). But.. no.. it's rocket science..

It astounds me, how something sooo "basic" has eluded the people (devs) who would benefit most from it, from the standpoint of potential "banks" made for their products (and user base), if not the customer satisfaction with regard to them being able to easily customize their own "sound(s)".

Please (someone) do an "fxp/fxb" one!!!

I said too much already. But you know it is a universal preset manager. Now, ponder this:
- When Rhino was released, he was one of the very first vstis with a built-in, categorized presets browser - maybe the first, I don't remember.
- it also was one of the very first vstis featuring multi-point graphical envelopes, close second with Absynth
- it was the first one with the notion of "performance controllers", where one slider or knob can be used to control a bunch of other parameters in the synth.

My point is... expect something really innovative

I'm aiming for early July. The only tricky thing remaining is support for external assets, that is, those wav or sfz or other files that need to be attached to a preset. But for simple presets that don't require anything else, it works, and I'll start betatests very soon.

Cool! Could you please "innovate" a customizable "menu" option, that would "hide" any/all options/parameters NOT wanted/necessary to any given users preference(s)/needs???

Would it ever become a new standard if it wasn't free ? I doubt it.

.glo, .ksd, .h2p - why use your own format ?
