So list all those prior examples where [multitouch] hardware platform, operating system and applications were developed simultaneously. Where all these three aspects that define the user experience are 100% orchestrated and tuned to eachother, like in the iPad.
Youre high in the marketing bull department, you must work for Apple

Examples of what? I wasn't the one claiming Apple was late to the party. Quite the contrary actually - I think they're the first and that the iPad has the promise to really push the creative boundaries.UltraJv wrote:Neither do youbrambos wrote:Lame. But then again, I work in the creative industry. I get paid to think outside the box, spot creative opportunities and explore new possibilities.
Technology and specs don't interest me at all, unless they are made useful and relevant to human beings. And that's why I admire Apple's design philosophy.

Its obvious you do think they are the first, I disagree. If you know how to Google - you will see this. Im certainly not going to do your work for you. As for pushing creative bounderies, its more pushing credibilty. But then as youre in marketing, no surprise there

You clearly have a vested interest. I used to work in R&D, where many designs never came to fruition - sound familar? Lets just leave it at that.brambos wrote:It's impossible to find something that doesn't exist.UltraJv wrote:I disagree. If you know how to Google - you will see this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-touchA breakthrough occurred in 1991, when Pierre Wellner published a paper on his multi-touch "Digital Desk", which supported multi-finger and pinching motions
Various companies expanded upon these inventions in the beginning of the twenty-first century. Mainstream exposure to multi-touch technology occurred in 2007 when the iPhone gained popularity, with Apple stating they 'invented multi touch' as part of the iPhone announcement.

I know the Lemur. Nice product!androidlove wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemur_Input_Devicehttp://www.jazzmutant.com/behindthelemur.phpthe first fully functional "Lemur" came to life and was unveiled to the public at Ircam on October 10th 2004.
But can I develop - or even install - more applications on the Lemur, than the one that Jazzmutant provides? In other words, is it a platform rather than a standalone product?
Certainly comparable to the iPad from a UI *technology* point of view, not from an application perspective.

So what the iPad has over previously existing implementations of the technology is the fact that you can install apps on it? (ultrajv just posted that apps are available for the Lemur too, so even that's doubtful). That's great. But if you believe Apple, they invented capacitive screens, multi-touch, Wi-Fi and probably GSM. Also, the phone.brambos wrote:I know the Lemur. People that you call Apple haters are (I imagine) people like me who despise the half-truths and outright lies that Apple employs to market its products. And all the superlatives. Damn, those superlatives!
Have you heard that the iPhone is getting video-calling? Have you seen Jobs coming in his pants, shouting how fantastic it is and how that day has come (AT LONG LAST!!!!!) to have video calling? Yeah, you know what? I have been seeing that stuff for about (give or take) six years. But obviously, Apple just invented it. And it only works over Wi-Fi, for whatever convoluted, bullshit reason Jobs is going to give when asked. That, to me, sums up the Apple marketing methodology and I find it hard to buy any of their products (sexy and elegantly designed as some are) out of principle.

Anyway I am the last one to say they did big inovations, they did small ones.
But they did adpat the tech to make it really usefull.
I mean lemur is usefull just for a few musicians, and musicians are just a very small part of population.
On the other side they never tried to get a big market.
But apple is goo a creating markets, adapting tech for them, they didnt create the tech they created how we use the tech.
Apple are not innovators by the tech, their are innovators because they made the tech useful for millions of people.
And lets be honest it is by far the best consumption device, and it is starting to find a lot of love as a creative/productive one, at least for some people.
Now bring me webOS, Synmian^3 or android...

I actually agree with everything you say. Apple's smugness can even be worse than, say, Prius-drivers. However, there's no denying that they have a talent for turning obscure technologies that nobody understands or wants to use (except for a handful of tech-obsessed geeks) into useful applications that normal people understand and recognize the value of.TristezaOrange wrote:People that you call Apple haters are (I imagine) people like me who despise the half-truths and outright lies that Apple employs to market its products. Other people advertise their products too, but the smugness and self-satisfaction Apple does it with is really overboard and extremely irritating. Don't make me start about the slanderous "I'm a Mac" ad campaign.
I used to have the same opinion on Apple as you do (mostly due to the smug Apple advocates getting on my nerves). Until I gave in and started to use their products. Then I realized that their marketing hyperbole actual contains a kernel of truth. Their products truly are in fact better thought through and more fun to use.

Its just like the Apple Mac - its an alternative but not superior to PC. Apple are being investiagted for unfair trading - exactly what happened to M$ years ago. Hardly surprising is it? Its all about choice, you refused to acknowledge that other devices came before ipad. Apple make u very blinkered dont they?pc999 wrote:Perfect to web brownsingUltraJv wrote: People have been writing apps for it for a while :
