no idea and no.

well, if i don't where they went to school I guess I could have but i'd be surprised...

And Hawkwind are on the list, how bloody old do you think I am?! :D

The connection is music related, nothing too obscure.

ok, what connects these acts:

Talk Talk
Mount Vernon Arts Lab
Neneh Cherry
Hawkwind
The Haywains
Hmm, do they all have some obscure connection to Portishead?

- PH's Beth Gibbons collaborated (as Rustin Man) with Talk Talk's Paul Webb for 'Out of Season'.
- PH's Adrian Utley collaborated with Mount Vernon Arts Lab.
- PH's Geoff Barrow wrote songs for Neneh Cherry.
- Mr Google suggests that PH's sound engineer Dave McDonald was somehow involved with the album 'Never Mind Manchester, Here's... the Haywains'
- And, um... one of them owns a Hawkwind album?

By Jove, I think he's got it!

You've got the connection though so I think you're the victor in this round.

Well done. :)

Cheers. I'm off to bed though, so I'll leave the next question to whoever gets the Hawkwind connection. :)

Did Beth Gibbons use to dance naked during Portishead gigs?

Clive Deamer! He's played with both bands!
Wikipedia wrote:Clive Deamer - drums, vocals - Deamer is a session musician, who has sessioned for the likes of Jeff Beck, Alison Moyet and Siouxsie Sioux. He is best known for his contributions to the Bristol based trip hop and drum and bass scenes, specifically Portishead and Roni Size and Reprazent, although he has also been a member of more conventional rock groups, such as Hawkwind and Robert Plant's Strange Sensation.

Re: Mount Vernon Arts Lab

Not heard of these before - very interesting. Vurt should certainly investigate, if he hasn't already - it sounds like his kind of thing!

now there's an image... almost Lynchian in it's strangeness.
Clive Deamer!
Yea! I was amazed by that factoid, knew he was a sessioner but... Hawkwind?! :)
Mount Vernon Arts Lab
Yeah, pretty strange but a compelling strangeness that draws you in. The cd (ep?) he did with Adrian Utley (Warminster) is great, all ominous, cold war synth drones and drums.

So, your turn. :)

First, I'd like to acknowledge that Barnadine did all the hard work for the last question! :hihi:

As we're talking Talk Talk again - what's the connection between:

Talk Talk
Kate Bush
Paul McCartney

The connection to all three is one person, and is a direct link.

Clue 1: this is a person normally associated with a different genre of music.

Good guess for two of them, but I'm not aware of any connection with Talk Talk, unless he's using them as his ISP (unlikely, he's not known for being a cheapskate).

P.S. - @vurt - had you heard of Mount Vernon Arts Lab?
