Now I have to choose two out of: SampleOB / Electronic Drums / Nashville Pop Grooves. As the quality between the soundpacks seem to differ widely, I'd like to here any suggestions. Is SampleOB on the same level as SampleArp? In my opinion the samples of SampleArp are rather thin and cheesy - almost like from a casio keyboard. The same problem I already had with the solo synths within SonikSynth. And there are many similar samples that hardly differ from each other. Same point in SampleOB?

More of the same, yes. All of these synths are sampled from vintage keyboards. Thin and cheesy, maybe, but historical and cool to play around with if you like using synth sounds. If you don't like the ones you've got so far, there is definitely no point in adding SampleOB to your collection.

More of the same, yes. All of these synths are sampled from vintage keyboards. Thin and cheesy, maybe, but historical and cool to play around with if you like using synth sounds. If you don't like the ones you've got so far, there is definitely no point in adding SampleOB to your collection.

Exactly. That's kinda how they sound, and sampled as such. However, with SampleTank you suddenly get things like the great effects, the ability to further tweak with the synth/LFO/Stretch sections, etc not to mention layering and WHOAH thin and cheesy be gone.

Sure Peter - but therefore I have my VST-Synths. I don't need an additional synth preset library, if I have to tweak them for hours instead of having them big right out of the box. And the tweaking capabilities of Sampletank are limited compared to Predator or Largo. Personally, I'm not in need of an original and exact sound.

Yeah, I agree with Peter and Zedd, some more modern effects and layering will really bring the thinner classic synths to life. I used chorus and delay with my old Sequential back in the day and it made a HUGE difference!

I'm LOVING Electronic Drums to get all the classic Roland stuff in one instrument plug-in. There's also some great BIG acoustic toms that give you that movie trailer vibe when mixed with the lighter electronica/rhythm machine stuff.

But Nashville Pop also has great drum performances that work in a wide variety of rock/alternative/new country settings... Depends on what you need more of, great, well recorded stereo loops and fills from a talented drummer or a treasure chest of expensive vintage machines. You can't go wrong with either!

Hey Peter, I know this probably isn't the place, but since you are following this thread, I just remembered a couple more SampleTank 3 features which would be nice... things I encountered while trying to edit some instruments from this GB.

(1) Currently, if you want to shift sample sets up and down the keyboard, you have to use the RANGE button and adjust to your liking. The problem with that is two-fold... your changes do not get saved with the preset, and also they remain on that Instrument channel even after you have changed to a different instrument. So this is a very inconvenient solution for fixing the range of a particular instrument (although handy if you want anything loaded into that instrument channel to be shifted). Would love to see a solution that is saved with the preset, or just the general ability to edit instruments (i.e. change the root note of samples, delete certain sample, extend keyboard range, etc.).

(2) A "LOCK" feature on the Synth > Bender would be handy. If you are auditioning a whole bunch of instruments like guitars (which need a pitch bend range of +/-12 for playability with a MIDI guitar), then changing that setting every time you load up a new preset is a bit time consuming.

(3) As previously mentioned in this thread, the idea of user-defined MACRO knobs would be handy (and a lock feature) to keep the currently selected MACROS in any instrument you load. If neither of the suggestions above were implimented, then at least the pitch bend range, and the keyboard range knobs could be locked as Macros and be instantly viewable/changeable when you load each new instrument.

There was something else, but I can't recall it at the moment. I should probably post this in the SampleTank 3 thread, but if you see this and can copy these suggestions for the development team, I would appreciate it.

Nashville Pop grooves are probably my favorite sounding drums in the groove collections. Although I gave Country grooves top billing just because of the other things that pack has to offer, in addition to also having great sounding drums with less snare rattle.

Ideally, you eventually want ALL the groove packs in Loop Slice and REX format so that you can find what you need when you need it, and can use it in the most productive way for the project at hand.

Nice to be able to give back a little to the forum. It's helped with a lot of my 17(!) choices...

Also to echo what Peter said earlier, Stretch does wonders for solo sounds in all the sets, and smooths out some of the more noticeable multi-sample points in things like the guitars and string libraries.

I don't know if you are following the other thread, but Squids explained that it was taking a little longer on the Wild Card because of the Studiophonik content. He is planning to release Studiophonik at the same time, and wants the Studiophonik content to be current in both packs.

Hopefully that doesn't mean that we're going to have to wait another couple of years for it!!!
