Thank you most kindly, Martin and Blurk, for this awesome gift! The OS X GUI version of MVerb passes Logic 8 on a PPC running 10.4.11 with flying colours and it really sounds great.

Best regards,

Joachim
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

I listened to a lot of reverbs developing this and I now have a good ear for what reverbs are using which techniques. I am convinced Urs Heckmann's Uhbik-A is using Dattorro's figure-of-eight. Sorry if I am giving your secrets away Urs
Almost. I use a weird design with 6 tanks and a 3-band frequency split.

However, while I did look at the Dattorro papers (I've always been fond of anything Ensoniq ;-) ), I've magically had some of David Griesinger's work appear on my desktop. Both were great inspirations.

I knew there must have been a deviation from the straight figure-of-eight difference because Uhbik-A maintains its smoothness at extreme density settings slightly better than MVerb. Uhbik-A also sparkles more on the high frequencies giving the sound a really nice shimmer, presumably due to the 3-band frequency split. Top work as ever Urs :tu:

I am a big fan of David Griesinger's work, his papers have driven my interest in reverberation techniques. Reverbs can be very addictive :help: :hihi:

Great! Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear a report of it working on PPC, as I only have Intel Macs to test on.

What a gem! Reverbs have always fascinated me to begin with, but this plugin has really inspired me to learn more about the algorithms behind them. Martin, I will most certainly be exploring this code, possibly even deriving from it! :)

Don't be surprised to hear from me again in the near future! Haha

Awesome, that was my intention. I really hope to see the code get used elsewhere and to see people build upon it

If you have any questions then feel free to ask me about the code :)

Thanks for the GUI. Just a minor suggestion, I think the EL/Mix label should be ER/LR.

P.S. It would be really nice to see a x64 version :)

If approved by Martin i can quickly modify the label.
(there is also some small detail to fix like move "size" to 1 pixel to the left)

Thanks for considering this suggestion and kudos for putting this GUI together.

Cheers.

I have tried compiling the algorithm in Xcode. I can get it to compile and run as a VST, but no GUI. What version of VSTGUI was used for the currently distributed VST and AU?

Reverb design ends up being a mental puzzle that is hard to put down. Once you learn the basic building blocks (delay lines, allpass delays, tapped delays, filters, unitary matrices), you can combine them to your heart's content.

It is worth noting that the Dattorro algorithm is similar to those found in Lexicon reverbs, but nowhere near as complicated as the Lexicon algorithms. I am pretty sure that the 1997 AES Dattorro algorithm was one of the algorithms from the DP/2 and DP/4.

Caco told me he used VSTGUI 3.5. For the OS X VST and AU, I just used the one I happen to have lying around from my other porting project, so I needed to make a couple of tweaks. I don't know its exact version but it's definitely an older one. Getting the latest VSTGUI is on my todo list. Would it help if I made a copy of my XCode project file available?

Mine is coming back from repair in a few days - I'll check it out (or, maybe, try to) :)

Is anyone willing to help make an x64 version of this? Thy would make my month :)

Yes please! If you could show how Symbiosis works with the code, that would be great as well. I am using Juce for my cross-platform code, but seeing how things work in the VSTGUI world is very educational.

Thanks,
