Is 2C's Aether REALLY worth it? (the answer is: yes, certainly)

Whoa! Not to be Mr. Sour Grapes, but: any way to make that manual smaller? The thing's ENORMOUS for a PDF. It looks nice, and I wouldn't want to sacrifice screenshot quality, but the "Metasynth 5" manual (with twice as many pages) is less than half the size...
As for the clickable TOC:

For the record, these are more useful than the thumbnails, IMHumO.
Worked for me!

thanks. good info regarding links. doing that now.
size is 11MB. Of course size is directly tied to the quality of the screen shots. page count does not matter much. There are a lot of large images. Lower quality settings did not look good IMHO. I will try one last time to reduce it a little more...

I don't think the file size is an issue...
the quality is what really matters.
The only thing missing is the linked index, but hopefully you can figure that out for a future update.

Definitely. Unless you are going to make it clear that with "The Algorithmic Competition" you are referring specifically and only to the Lexicon Native reverb I for one strongly object to the claims you make in that chart. The way it is made to look now suggests that your chart refers to all other algorithmic reverbs, in which case quite a few of the quotes specs are misleading and a number just plain wrong.Warp69 wrote:If you're not interested in comments, analysis and corrections from competitors regarding your product/claims, I would rethink that chart.Galbanum wrote:This chart may be interesting by itself to some people too BTW

Please send us an email to info [at] 2caudio.com and explain the errors as you understand them. If we confirm there are factual errors of course we will make edits.
Regarding naming specific companies we will take this into consideration...

Updated manual again...
1) Embedded Links in TOC. Cover page links to TOC.
2) Saved 1MB... down to ~10 mb.
(acrobat "reduce files size" feature results in 3MB, but all graphics look horrible at 1X zoom...)

Well, just with respect to our own Redline Reverb:Galbanum wrote:Please send us an email to info [at] 2caudio.com and explain the errors as you understand them. If we confirm there are factual errors of course we will make edits.
- Variable Quality Modes - No
Not wrong as such but quite misleading: we don't have this because we don't need any--the CPU load of Redline Reverb is extremely low even at maximum quality. - Latency - 32 samples
Redline Reverb has zero latency. - EQ - 1 ER Output Filter, 1 LR Output Filter
Redline Reverb offers two parametric output EQs plus two parametric damping EQs. - FX Usage - Very Limited
If you go through our presets there's a lot of extreme special FX presets. - Maximum Size - Around 80 meters
Our LR size goes up to 666 meters. - Parameter Accessibility - Nested/tabbed GUI...
Redline Reverb has a single page GUI. - Preset Browser - Single preset select via menu: very slow
I think that's not what you'll find when you try our presets menu. Changes are completely instantaneous. - Copy Protection - iLok
All our products feature license file protection that is not tied to hardware or anything else. - Price - Up to $1899
Sure, but also "As low as $149" for our offering.
All the best,

yes. Agreed. Word choice in the title is not clear enough as we just discussed via email. We do not mean to compare to the entire market. The quotes in the title were intended to infer this, but perhaps it is too subtle...

As someone who frequently uses Aether (it's gobbling up CPU cycles as I write!), all I can say is:dj! (112dB) wrote:I'm sure other reverb manufacturers might have other issues with your comparison chart.
The manual doesn't really need the chart; Aether speaks for itself.
Of course, some people who like to compare apples to oranges to spiked maces and rotten bananas may think they need it.
The safer route may just be a list of the existing "virtues." No comparison is really needed, BECAUSE (wait for it, wait for it...) nothing I've used compares to Aether.
Except for, like, you know -- REAL canyons, cathedrals, theatres, etc.

Yeah, I was afraid that the images may look bad, but who knows...Galbanum wrote:Updated manual again...

Here's an old link I resurrected from the favourites list:

But, other than this: Thank you!!! The TOC is now officially fantastic!

"refry pdf" option in that link via (re)print to pdf from Preview in OSX sounded like a cool trick to try, but it makes the file 49MB, and breaks the TOC links...
The only option would be to reduce image quality I think, and IMHO it is not worth it...
In 2010 we download 5-10-20MB MP3s from iTunes like they are in a candy machine, and many of us download gigbytes of movies as well from here, and Netflix etc... So IMHO, who cares if the manual is 5MB or 10MB... right?

What the hell??! Go figure. I hadn't actually tried this trick myself, but it sounded good. It turned everything into a graphic, I guess...Galbanum wrote:"refry pdf" option in that link via (re)print to pdf from Preview in OSX sounded like a cool trick to try, but it makes the file 49MB, and breaks the TOC links...![]()
Well, every little bit o' reduced downloading counts -- but you're right, this would be like using a small pail to help clean up the current oil spill.Galbanum wrote:In 2010 we download 5-10-20MB MP3s from iTunes like they are in a candy machine, and many of us download gigabytes of movies as well from here, and Netflix etc... Hey, you can add reverb to whatever you want, but from the sound of things, I beg you to leave me OUT of it!!!jensa wrote:And toilets... or I meant bathrooms.
Hmmm, the sound of a violin section playing in a toilet bowl - there's a positively... awful idea!
(Can you flush 'em if they stink?
