re. the OP:

I think the article is mostly stating the obvious. Steve Jobs has already made quite clear that he thinks the iPad is a taste of the future of mainstream computing, so it's inevitable that he is going to put all the eggs into that basket.

As I've said here before, the old iMacs look very long-in-the-tooth on the shop shelves now, compared to all the new Windows 7 touchscreen all-in-ones. And from the article at the start here, it seems clear that an up-to-date replacement is not about to drop, so Mac computers are going to look increasingly our of place and behind the times unless Apple focus all out on a replacement soon. What this means for Logic, etc, we can only guess...

...but my guess is Apple will do the bare minimum to ensure their computer line doesn't entirely disappear for the moment, while they give 95% of their efforts to build up their momentum with the iPad and retain their lead in phones.

I blame it on cassettes.

We should have stuck to wax cylinders.

wax cylinder cassettes probably would have made everyone happy. imho.

i guess if the news is true about Mac, i won't feel so bad about looting the Apple store during our next riot/earthquake/tsunami/zombie attack.

and to think, all you needed to do was "REPAIR PERMISSIONS", and the problem would have been fixed. :hihi:

No, no...none of those inferior off-brands for me! Genuine Graphophone!

The gps, gyroscopes and augmented reality are key here. They will not be niche items for much longer.

Things are going to get very interesting very quickly, I think. The lines between software and reality will begin to blur with increasing speed. Macs and PC's as we now know of them will indeed go by the wayside with shocking swiftness.

Don't blame Steve, though. As much as he'd like you to think he's writing it, he's just seeing 'the' writing on a very big wall and acting (and advertising) accordingly, which is what he's always been very good at.

Why doesn't Apple just sell their OS like Windows does? I mean, it's pretty much running on a PC now anyway.

Because Apple makes much more money selling hardware than software.
