Yea, that's why I've been saying for a while now. Just look in any thread with "Apple" or an Apple product in the subject. You'll find a certain member trolling in each of them.
Glad you finally owned up to it. Youre off topic as well. Ive posted examples of youre trolling in the past...

But yeah, the abundance of configurations is both a blessing and can be a huge PITA.

I have no problem with that. One should always use what one feels most at home with. The only real problem i see is how to be comfortable enough with ones choice to "defend" it (Froooty loops suck.No it doesn't) and still be open enough to see a better alternative if one arouses (SAWStudio is daBomb!! No it isn't There's plenty of alternatives these days. Gee,never knew, thatnks i'll try 'em out). This isn't directed at you specifically, just something that's been on my mind lately.

It is happening as we speak. The Carbon to Cocoa switch which even makes you switch language form C++ to Objective-C. Maybe not everything all the time but still. The Mac platform is a much more moving target than Windows. As a user you may not notice it much but from where i stand the developer has to do so much work for pretty much nothing.

I owned up to it? How exactly do I troll Apple threads? I'm obviously talking about you, and regarding being off topic, that would from replying to your posts. :dog:

This thread is moot anyway since Apple came out with new MBP only a few months ago and just announced a new Mac today. I'm sure more will follow.

When I worked as an assistant sound editor (TV documentaries, mostly) in the mid-90s, a Mac was the only way to run ProTools.
With the release of Windows NT4, Digidesign started to look at the wider pool of available users, and eventually developed their product around their interfaces, not around the platform that supported it. This bought them many more users, I'm sure. (When you're thinking about outfitting a whole company with audio editing bays, the difference in hardware price for the CPU box becomes extremely relevant in your choice: $2500 for a Mac or $800 for a PC x 50 machines in the company. Not an inconsiderable amount of money, really)
AVID (who own Digi) also jumped to supporting both platforms in the mid-90s for their video editing suite (and LightWorks was on PC from the get-go, it just didn't catch on as well).
So...I'd like to see some numbers for installed user base that proves that Mac rules the industrial world of audio and video post-production.

(I'm in school studying Digital Media Arts right now, and the two classes I take that rely in Macs do so only because: 1) someone decided that Final Cut was the best choice for us to learn video editing (I'd disagree: it's a capable program, but not the only game in town); and 2) my Typography and 2-D design instructor is enamoured of Suitcase Fusion on the Mac (also something whose functionality is available on the PC platform), so we have to work on the Mac platform, and submit our work on a Mac fileserver.
Thankfully, all Adobe products are functionally interoperable on both platforms, so I only have to learn one set of apps to work on both platforms.)

so...you're right, whatever combination of hard- and soft-ware gets your mojo working is great.
Both platforms can rock, and they can both certainly suck.
I get annoyed most, however, when people can't admit (and I'm not referring to you, ebow here, but more generally) that everything has flaws, that there's pro and con to everything.

peace,

b

Quite clearly it is aimed at me. Youre making things personal.

Bring up a thread I posted in with "animosity" towards you that doesn't involve you bashing Apple. Don't troll threads unless you can take the heat. My replies are just that, replies to your original posts which are your trolling in Apple threads such as this one.

Youre still taking it personally. I dont need youre permission to speak out against Apple. Perhaps youre trying to get the thread locked. Go ahead, it wont change the situation with Apple.

Why are you assuming that I'm taking it personally? No one said you need permission, obviously you don't because you already posted, I already stated that I'm just replying to your trolling posts. We've already established that I'm a fanboy so I'm obviously going to reply when it comes to bashing Apple.

Clearly , you cant see the irony in that :-)

I will pull out so the thread dosnt get locked. You may continue youre battle with the others who have similar opinions to me :-)

I think that's pretty much the de facto assumption of most KvRr's (not just UltraJv) whenever a Mac/Apple thread pops up around here. :)

i'm not sure i understand what you are saying in the second paragraph.......

the first sequencer i ever tried was logic...all my mates had it....only one of them had it running on pc, even though they had the choice of either in those days....

i just plodded along with my yamaha a3000 sampler a fostex digital 16track and cubase on an st...then i moved to pc, running cubase and had great times with it

it all went wrong when i upgraded to sx3, for some reason..many issues..had a brief dabble with sonar, due to having made friends with a guy at turnkey in london, then ended up settling on protools with the rack interface

not long after my pc died and i started spec'in pc's to replace it...almost settled on an inter-audio custom spec'd laptop for 2,000 quid, until i realised i could get the , then top of the range, macbook pro for 100 quid cheaper...

protools never really took off for me...i found the whole interface quite counter-intuitive, for whatever reason and my protools period was the least productive of all my setups...so with my apple, came the switch back to logic, compatibility with my mates an eye-opening introduction to an os that seemed to work with me,(rather in spite of me) and a great music program that still satisfies me to this day

i have no time or will to be telling people what to, or not to, use....do what you do to get the job done

after reading this thread, and ultrajv's foregone conclusion, i might start to learn ableton while i have the lite version as it seems i will be back on a pc within a matter of years (i'm assuming that pc's and windows qill weather the slate revolution okay, or do i misunderstand :D

as for your last paragraph, i guess it sucks to be a developer, huh :(

i can't rightly say, i'm speculating....i would be surprised if the pricepoint and suite-like nature of final-cut and logic don't become a real 1-2 combo over the coming years

of course, there are flaws and pros and cons.....i'm all good cuz my pros are still heavily outweighing my cons
