Yeah but spending less time on rewriting code for no good reason at all must be a good thing,no ? This particular developer (and it isn't really about him) just happens to voice his concerns more vocally than the rest (to put it mildly).ebow wrote: i still don't get it.....
i mean i understand the frustration...it must be a right c**t, but no one is forcing them
if a rewrite is necessary anyways, then what gives...it seems their issue is with logic pro, not the os anyways...yet another case of , one company digging their heels in when others just get on with it...i'm sure that the other companies are also groaning under their breath but they just get on with it...thats what staying in business is all about, non ??
Think the exact opposite, how does completely unnecessary rewrites benefit you ?
In what way does a 100 hour spent on rewriting from Carbon to Cocoa benefit you ?
You seem to think Apple is the only platform "They pretty much have to rewrite it to stay in business so what's the problem?". I don't see how one could even think that if one has thought some about the subject. True it's the same thing for all (Apple) developers but how does that benefit you ? It doesn't.
ebow wrote: i have to say that, as a consumer, my apple experience got better with each of those upgrades...and that's what's important, right...regardless of the drama behind the scenes, my experience with my computer got a lot better.....i did wait about 18 months before installing leopard , though....i do understand the need to not be at the bleeding edge, to hold onto my marbles
I don't doubt that. That is your experience. But do you think that is because of or despite of Apple changing the target on a regular basis ? How is it not better for a 10 year old plugin to still function flawless (which means no time developing upgrades) than not ? I just don't see how your thinking there.
I really have no idea. Other companies don't do it so why should they ?ebow wrote: as for apples latest 'whim'...do you really believe money gets diverted within apple to do spmething for no reason ??...i would guess that even if the reason isn't so apparent it most definitely exists..why would a company break backwards compatibility for nothing ??
There are some good reasons to break backward compability but to me it seems Apple has taken it way way waaaay to far. Just because they do it doesn't mean it's right. They could be mistaken you know which means they will be put out of business which they would have unless another company (which doesn't do it that way BTW) had bailed them out, to avoid monopoly. They were too successful so to avoid having their company destroyed by the government the bailed out the company that failed miserably. That's government for you.

well, with the introduction of the new Mac Mini this afternoon, I think it looks like Apple's going to be in the Mac game a good while longer. After all, companies don't spend countless time, R&D and money on computers if they're going to kill them off soon.
(though they have also removed the Firewire 800 port from it, and reduced the USB ports to four. OTOH, they now have made it easier to open to get more RAM in - no more putty knife!)
But then again, Apple also launched a new ad campaign a few weeks ago (replacing the long running "I'm A Mac" campaign), in which they more pointedly explain why Macs are better than PCs

yes, they have for awhile - in fact, I have two of the March 2009 versions - one for the main system, and one running my HDTV/PVR setup.hibidy wrote:Oh yeah, they still make that hun?well, with the introduction of the new Mac Mini this afternoon, I think it looks like Apple's going to be in the Mac game a good while longer. I haven't looked enough, but I guess this has already been brought up. I think Steve knows that his OS is hackable and can be ran on PC hardware, so maybe he thinks it's time to offer the OS with out the hardware. Apple still makes devices and such but why not become an OS company aswell.
A minor scale is a major scale starting 3 half steps down from the major and visa versa. Any Chord has as many versions as it has notes.
